Now THIS is a real man's mountain bike race.

Apparently the 5th edition of this beast is coming up at the end of July.

The question is: do I hate myself enough to pay $60 to kick my own ass? 😛

5th annual off-road assault on mt. mitchell

"55 miles and 12,000 ft. of climbing in the rugged Pisgah National Forest surrounding the tallest mountain of the east coast. Contact Todd Branham of Blue Ridge Adventures at 828-606-5107."

"have no illusions that you will escape some type of injury on 55 miles of rough terrain.....whether abrasions or mental breakdown. everyone suffers in one way or another"
Sounds like a party. 😀

Nah. I'm to mean to die. 😀

Seriously though: 5-6 hours at altitude in NC at the height of the summer on rocky, narrow trails......what could go wrong? 😛

I don't think I'd do that with a motorcycle, much less a mountain bike.
Yeah, all that sweating would really mess up the pleats on your skirt. 😀

I'm too new to the sport to endure that kind of pain. I'm almost certain my lungs would collapse or I would suffer from heat stroke.

Props to you!

Where is that located? Not that many places feature a location that can do 12000' of net altitude change. (or is it just all the uphills added together?)

North Carolina....and yes it's all the uphills added together. Starting elevation is 1,000-ish and finishing is something like 6,000 feet at the top of Mt Mitchell.

I never wear pleats.
That's right....you're more of a culottes kinda guy as I recall. 😀

thats on a road, try doing 48 miles, same elevation changes IN THE FUSKING WOODS, that is much harder,
Yeah, I think it's pretty much going to suck, but what the hell. It'll make for some good stories afterwards when I'm trying to restore circulation to my ass. 😛

Sounds like a blast!

My longest ride so far was just shy of 3 hours, I'm not sure how my body would fair for 6.

I just started my diet and hope to shred at least 25 lbs before October. That should really help my riding.

I would likely try to line up my derailer with a rock or stump or something. Unless there's no roads nearby (for a ride back) ...

Definitely. I'm down about 20lbs since January and my climbing is much improved.

Baggy old lady shorts. And they usually have pleats also. I'm a committed anti-pleat activist.

I stand corrected...you're both women. 😀😛
I only know what they are from watching Seinfeld.

Look what you've done Fausto. Hijacked your own thread.
