With "big ears" there was no way to detect someone was watching and waiting. At night and during cloudy days with low ceilings this was the only way to know a bird was far away.

I think what that's referring to is a particular German aircraft that used some semi transparent material for much of its construction. It was difficult to spot, but certainly not "invisible."
