With the recent laptop threads in OT I thought I'd throw this one out there if you're looking to buy "top of the line."
I was surprised when I saw this yesterday... and even more surprised when I saw the price.
From PowerNotebooks.com
Sager NP8887 FORCE

40.0GB Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive at 4,200 RPM (5,400 RPM is Available)
1,024MB (2 DIMMS) PC2100 DDR Memory
Combo 8X DVD/24x10x24 CD-RW w/Softwares
Built-in TV Tuner w/Remote

If only I had $2600. I don't care about heat & battery life since my laptop stays on my desk at work... it's just nice to know I can pick it up and carry it home if I have to. :)

That would be totally friggin sweet...too bad i can't choose what brand of laptop i want at the office, we are stuck with IBMs (which are damn good machines), but this is nice.

I forwarded the link onto a workmate that is wanting a gaming laptop and was going to blow 4 grand at Alienware. Maybe now he can get one of these. :D

what's it's weight? How long does the battery last? Not too long I think.

Remind him that the Alienware laptop IS a Sager. It tells you that on the powernotebooks site. Link

Don't work for them... don't own one... just really want one. :D
I just know that when I replace my Inspiron it won't be with another Dell... they're great systems and I've never had a problem with it... you just don't get the bang for the buck like you use to. Atleast not with laptops.
Plus powernotebooks has a great reputation... #1 on resellerratings. I figure thousands of ppl can't be wrong.

Only 2 hours??? Turn it on, then off again.

2 hours seems pretty good to me for a desktop replacement with that much power... my Inspiron 7500 P2 400 probably only goes about 2.5 hours on battery alone. I'm always near an AC outlet so I've never gone more than an hour or so without being plugged in.

NO thanks... i'll take the HT 3.06 P4 over that in a second.

To each their own.

And BTW, 12 pounds!!!???. I don't know if any of you travel with your laptops, but that would be nearly unbearable. I have a Gateway 9300 which comes in at about 7lbs and it gets to be pretty heavy on my shoulder. I couldn't imagine 12 lbs.

12 lbs? that isn't a desktop replacement, that's a freakin' desktop!

pretty full featured laptop, though. but i'd still rather have mine at 2 ghz less and 9 lbs lighter :)

Bleh stop fighting over which laptop is better and why. The laptops you're comparing are in completely different classes aimed at very different people.
Afterall that Sager would not only crush your powerbook when it got dropped on it... but it would celebrate its victory by playing a nice game of Doom 3. ;)

2 hours battery life...until you play a game.....

and then it's probably about 15 mins and will start to burn your desk apart.

Also remember those 3.06 laptops throttle down to around 2-2.2ghz when they're on batteries, you only get that speed if your plugged in.

I'm in the Powerbook camp. $2600 is an awful lot to pay, and this laptop is really just a powerful desktop in little box. It's powerful, but it's not a very elegant solution.
