NOW they're recalling the contact lens solution

This really sucks, because that is the only solution that I like.
What is scary is the following:
Acanthamoeba is a microorganism commonly found in water, soil, sewage systems, cooling towers, and heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Acanthamoeba keratitis (AK) is a rare, but serious, infection of the cornea. AK is usually found among individuals who improperly store/handle/disinfect their lenses (e.g., use tap water or homemade solutions for cleaning), swim/use hot tubs/shower while wearing lenses, come in contact with contaminated water, have minor damage to their corneas, or have previous corneal trauma. The incidence of AK in the United States has been estimated by CDC at approximately one to two cases per million contact lens users.

Let's see, I swim/shower with my contacts in, and have had previous corneal trauma (ripped my cornea out about 3 or 4 years ago). Now I need to find another brand solution. I have 2 new bottles of this at home, and I made sure they were the ones manufactured in Spain since they had a recall a couple months ago for the same stuff manufactured in China.

I kept getting a lot of infections this year in my eyes. I wonder if my solution is next. They already recalled the old contacts I used to use. Lame companies.

Wow, I have the same exact solution and my left eye has had a swelling on it and a little pimple for the past 3 weeks. I've not used this solution for about a week now because I wear glasses due to the slight swelling. Damn, maybe I should get this checked out.

I would have it checked out. Also call the FDA per the AMO press release:

Please report any adverse reactions experienced with the use of this product and/or quality problems to AMO by calling 1-800-347-5005 and to the FDA's MedWatch Program by phone at 1-800-FDA-1088.

EDIT: here is the website for the FDA in case you are not a phone person: www.fda.gov/medwatch

I use this solution :( Been using it for at least 10 years now. Will need to visit by Optomitrist to see which solution to change to.

Dude, get it checked out ASAP. This is not something you should be ambivalent about.

check out Alcon's OptiFree Replenish line. It's nice and after soaking the lens in the solution, they are more comfortable than they had been using the regular OptiFree line.

oh for F's sake!!!! :|

I used the Renu MoistureLoc solution before until that was recalled and what did i switch to? yep, Complete Moisture Plus (i think i even mentioned that in a Renu recall thread).

I clicked on the link and was hoping beyond hope that it wouldn't be the one i'm using and as soon as i saw the picture I let out a "SonOFABTCH!!" :|

I suppose Optifree Replenish will be next on the recall list as i'll be switching to that :frown:

I have been using Optifree for the last couple of years and just recently there replenish line and think its a good product. Luckily they haven't had any issues yet so I have been free and clear from all of the lens solution recall mess. Hopefully they continue to keep their act together.

Cykiert said the germ involved in this is different from the one in a big contact lens recall by Bausch & Lomb about a year ago.

Just came back from the eye doctor and he said the swelling and the little thing on my eyelid is a "stye"(sp?). He said it is no big deal, just use warm water and towel paper on it. As for the solution, he said use Opti-Free Replenish.

I used this before and it wasn't as good as the Amo Complete Moisture Plus, but since that is causing problems and the manufacturer is pulling it, I won't be using that anymore.

Lol. I'm glad I stuck with Renu MultiPlus, which was never recalled and I've never had problems with it.

Good for you. It's better to hear it from the professionals than assume anything. I got an eye infection once from a contact lense (an old spare). The optometrist said if I hadn't gone in to see her earlier, things could have been far worst with a good chance of blindness.

That is exactly what my doctor switched me to.

Fvck, this was the one recommended by my optometrist. So what are the solutions that are safe now? ReNu has been recalled, is that safe now?

haha, same as me. And the only reason I switched to AMO was because they were the only moisture solution left at my grocery store... now I'm outta options!
