Check this out, if you're a UT freak like me:
<< As some of you might know, your copy of UT comes with some ultra high-res textures on the second CD, compressed using S3's S3TC method. With these textures, the game is nothing short of show-stopping, particularly in high resolutions. Unfortunatly, you can only use them in MeTaL, and not OpenGL or D3D. This means GeForce and VooDoo5 cards (both of which support S3TC) are left in the cold.
... At least in Windows.
Loki, the company Epic Games hired to handle the Linux port not only enhanced and cleaned up the OpenGL renderer, they added S3TC support! You can now play UT with all the speed (and often more) of Windows, but enjoy a faster renderer with S3TC support... and trust me, once you see UT at 1600x1200@32 with the high-res textures, you won't need UT in Windows anymore.
Nab the binaries/patch right here off Loki's site.
Note: I highly recommend that users use version 4.0 or higher of XFree86 (and in the case of GeForces, NVIDIA's custom OGL/2D driver) with this game. These have dramatic impacts on performance. >>
