True, although I think being black was a valid reason to vote for Obama. Were I black, I would be quite disturbed that we had never had a black President. (Being white I was only mildly disturbed.)

I understand where you are coming from, but keep in mind that black people have always been between 8% to 13% of the population since day 1 of the USA. Why should it be disturbing that all of the Presidents were white up until Obama...I mean ONLY 90% of the population was white afterall [before the 1970s atleast].

If 9 out of 10 Americans were Black and we had ALL White Presidents then that would be FD up [ie-South Africa] but that was never the case...I see nothing wrong with the Presidents being all white, it fit the demographics of the country.

Edit- let me add, that the percentage of the population matters alot. Everytime the argument is brought up that its so "weird and racist" we have only had white Presidents in the past...The population percentage is never mentioned at all. It makes perfect sense why that was when you realize that 9 tenths of the population was white in the past [until the 70s]. Discrimination played a role to, but even without discrimination it would be odd to see a minority running a country. It happens rarely in most countries on the planet.

For me the amusing thing is that the contenders weren't eliminated because of race or sex but because they eventually were found to be undesirable on their merits. The system which is inherently flawed nonetheless removes at least some of the worst leaving at least the potential for improvement. This is unlike some posters in internet forums who will always remain in the shallow end of the critical thinking pool.

Last I checked the US is still White majority. As they say in South Africa...Majority rules. But attacking white males is the easy thing to do these days. Its the only group that is not a protected class in this country [unless your a white male AND gay ofc, then you are protected for liking it in the A].

Id like to know why some people rag on the Republican candidates for being all white, yet mention zip-zero-nada about Obama being black and from a community that is only 13% of the population. Why should a 13%'r run this country and that is perfectly A'ok, but heaven forbids if all of the candidates are from the 63% portion of the population which is clearly the majority.

My answer is - guilt. White folks like to feel good by the thought of voting for a black guy, since in the past slavery happened etc etc. And mentioning that discrepancy of a 13%'r would be...[drum rolls please]...Racist. Supposedly atleast, that word is thrown around like the word "blue" these days.

Personally though, I dont care that the President is black. Or Purple, but I do care when people rag on the Repubs for being all white [now], and make no mention as to why that is wrong or a bad thing [its not at all]. If THAT is wrong, then surely Obama [being black and from a 13% minority] is even worse.

What idiocy - by the way, have 13% of presidents been black? 50% been women?

Don't forget representation by religion or lack thereof, or those who are this or that.

The greatest failure is on the part of the public to insist on the quality of office holders above all else, but that's how we are as a people. We section out a demographic and insist an accident of birth be at least as valuable as individual merit. Until we outgrow that we will always settle on inferior options.

What countries on Earth have perfectly cookie cutter election rates where every group has a turn being President based on % ? Oh thats right. None, so your point [which was weak] is mute. Nearly all are run by their majority, and those that are not bitch about it...Even Iraq is ran by Shi'ites now.

Besides that, just face it. Obama sucks. Hes horrible x1000 and set the bar LOW for what a future Black President has to do to do better. And hes going to lose to a [gasp!] white Republican candidate. Hope you like that thought!!!

Could have swore the last election went down to a black male and white women for the dems.

And did the media come full force at those candidates as they did to Cain, Palin and Bachman? The answer you are looking for is "no".

With Bachmann out recently and Cain out too, it's only white men remaining. Who would have seen this one coming?

Shouldnt we be looking at their platform and not their gender or skin color? You be more happy with Bachmann or Cain as president than Romney?

I personally don't think Obama will lose to any of these guys unless something drastic changes before November. Had Mitch Daniels run and won the nomination, Obama would've been in trouble. Not with the current set of stooges, however.
