Saturday evening, while riding the Metro (light) Rail in downtown Houston, my wife and I were listening to the conversation of a man right behind us. He had a thick Texas accent, something that both of us are accustomed to hearing somewhat frequently. He was loud and boisterous as any true Texan normally is, which didn't surprise us at all.

However, when it was time for us - my wife, myself, AND the guy behind us - to get off the train, my wife and I both looked at the guy. We were shocked to discover that he was Asian! I have never encountered any Asians with a Texan accent, let alone a thick accent.

Chalk that experience up in the "surreal moments" book for me, please.

My aunt in Florida knows an asian mechanic with a jamaican accent.

Watch the movie The Sultan Sea. Theres a small asian with a good Texas accent, a big ass truck and a cowboy hat. It was the funniest thing I've seen....

There was a guy named Babu on Jeopardy a couple years back from TX and he had a heavy southern accent despite appearing to be Indian (I think he is actually of Sri Lankan descent but born and raised in TX).

Amusingly, it was not hard to find his website

There is one guy who used to live in my dorm, he looked like a FOB chinese guy, but he had a HEAVY british accent. Always weirded people out.

One of my wife's friends is asian and she has a very southern accent. It did kinda throw me off at first.

My sister's boyfriend is white, born in South Carolina. At age 6, he moved to Singapore and lived there until he was 18. He speaks Mandarin pretty fluently. He has absolutely no Asian accent though. All I can here is a very mild Southern accent.

there are a lot of asian people in the caribbean with caribbean accents.
