Now that's one hell of a tip!

Don't forget, taxes are going to be taken out of that tip.

What I'm wondering is how it made it into the news? Did the bartender run to the local paper, or management?
I'd think that a transaction like that would remain private.

"Nothing would make us happier than to present her with that check," McNee said.

Why does this statement make me think there is a "But" coming down from corporate HQ. Something along the lines of "But, it is Applebee's policy that any tip larger than $100 be submitted to HQ for verification and an appropriate portion will be returned to the employee"

hahah if that happened i would be pissed.

though the women is insane. hmm help her dad or get a jeep? pfft stupid bimbo. get a honda!

Talk about ghetto. You get $10,000 and the first thing you do is put it in a money sink like a Jeep. Never ending cycle of poverty.
QF-to-tha-mothafvckin-T

Its called save, so maybe you don't have to work at Applebee's for the rest of your life
Either that or pay down existing debt or help her folks. $10K is enough to do something smart with, but not enough to spend on something dumb that'll probably put her deeper in a hole.

Not hot!

I was just thinking, the insurance, maintance and gas etc on that jeep is probably going to cost her at least $300 a month.

Yeah it sucks the government will stick it's hand out and steal half of it.

I wouldn't even have even claimed it.

Why half of it? Isnt it just part of her wages? They might take a lot initially but wont she get most of that back at tax time?

What's wrong with buying a new car especially if your old one is a POS? There is no point in saving for the future if your present is crappy.

You see, that's why you can never end poverty just by giving people money. They just blow it on luxury goods they don't need.

Kienow, whose father will have to take some time off work for surgery on both of his knees, said she hasn't decided what to do with the money.

"I'd like to take care of my parents, since they always took care of me," she said. "But I feel like he wanted me to buy something for myself, and there's a Jeep that I've had my eye on for a while."

WTF. Selfish bitch.

Insurance?

?

I'm wtf'ing that she has a quandry between 'helping take care of her parents' and buying herself an SUV...

Don't worry, that's a normal human reaction. Unfortunately, many people in current USA culture have fallen far into the greed trap.

Just saw this in today's local paper. The restaurant is about a mile from my house. Have had that bartender serve me several times.

Local News Story

Things are going pretty good in the heartland there eh?

I bet he just got a windfall from ethanol.

Saving money is a good idea if you can do so while enjoying a decent quality of life, but I would rather enjoy life now than possibly enjoy it when I get old. The girl didn't win the lotto or anything so unless she just bought a new car I see no reason why she shouldn't go out and buy a car with her fat tip.

Since when has a jeep or any 10K car been a luxury item? If she said she was putting a downpayment on a new vette or H2 hummer then maybe we can say she's blowing money on a luxury item.
