Now that Skype's dead, what are you all using for voice/video chat programs (Windows)?

Skype is dead? I'm such a boring family man now I don't even know what's 'in' anymore.

We switched to Trillian at work last month, it seems OK so far. That's just for text though, we don't bother with voice/video chat.

I'm downloading Skype for Windows, right nao. Or maybe it's just an installer package?

I believe VirtualLarry has some weird aversion to the MS store. It also works for us just fine. My 16yo son uses Skype every Thursday to connect with his Spanish tutor who is located in Ohio and they can connect every week with no issue. I'm not sure that "Skype is dead" like the thread title suggests it's just that Microsoft has changed the way you can download it.

Skype for business has been a piece of shit in my work. Tons of instances where it takes forever to connect to the chatroom and other random hiccups. We all miss the previous one that I can't remember the name of right now...

It's not a misleading thread title.

I managed to get Skype on this PC, using a SkypeSetupFull.exe that I downloaded on another machine previously.

When I "check for updates", it says that I have the newest version.

Yet, when I login, it says "can't connect", and doesn't download my profile / friends list.

If I get my username or password wrong, it tells me, so I haven't typoed that.

I re-iterate, Skype for Windows Desktop is dead.

Edit: Not Firewall settings, I checked Windows Firewall on this fresh install of Windows 10. Skype is checked, for both Public and Private networks. This is a fresh install of Windows too.

Edit: Sure as shooting, when I launched the Windows 10 App version of Skype, it let's me log in. But not Skype Classic. Those bastards!!!

Edit: No Cam on this PC, so I plugged in my Gigaware (Radio Shack house brand) USB chat headset. I set up the Mic in Windows 10, and it appeared to be able to hear me, but Skype (App) says my Mic isn't working, when the conversation starts. Freaking MS Garbage. I want my Skype Classic.

Edit: Just a FYI, for those not able to get their Mics working with Skype (App version in Windows 10) - you have to go to Settings App, and then there is a permissions for Mic, you have to Enable the global permission setting, and then Enable on an App-specific basis which Apps have permission to access the Mic. Whew.

Skype for Windows Desktop is not downloadable at that link. Sorry, only "Skype for Windows" (the 8.x version), which, on Windows 10, just tells you to go to the store, it won't actually install.

Skype Classic is no longer available.

What about just using the web version web.skype.com? That what I do and haven't used the windows app in a while. If you want the Windows version, try getting it from majorgeeks.

I just tried to use the update feature in Skype 7.4.x on my Win7 desktop and it reckoned it had the latest update already. I went to download the Skype client and the exe reckons it's version 8.something.

After running it I now have a Skype client that looks completely different and several users in my contacts list who weren't there before, and some missing ones who were there before.
