lol at the time of 486x66 I had 24MB of ram in my Gateway

the damn thing still works to this day.

But then again in those days adding about 4-8 more MB of ram(on top of 16mb) scaled alot better than adding 128-256 ram(on top of 512) today.

Speak for yourself. IMHO, the 1GB landmark is a big one for photo/video/audio editing/encoding.

The first thing I'm going to do when I have 1 gig of ram is to start a thread about 1 gig of ram so somehow, someway I can justify having 1 gig or ram.

stopped caring how much cr@p i have open. don't need to close programs if i start up most games (cept simcity/1942). scanning/manipulating large/multiple images without worry of the dredded disc thrash.

All my machines have 1GB of ram now... but the question is, should i upgrade my SDRAM to DDR. I don't know what i'll do with the 1gb of SDRAM.

things feel snappier with ddr in windows. thats all i can say;)

Sounds like your being sarcastic :)

I went from 384 of ddr to 768, BIG difference, i dont know if it'd be a big deal from 512 to 1gb, probably with games for sure.
Only game i play is warcraft III, i've never seen the RAM usage go over 600mb and im running WinXP Pro.

Either way, 1gb= teh win. My next pc will have it for sure, im not spending anymore money on pc2100 ram :\.
