Ok.... is it normal that:
1. It takes one minute to boot ?
2. It takes even more time to log in ? Like a good 10 seconds of disk trashing just to be able to use the computer?
3. That while booting... the screen is white ? Damn I HATE white at 60 hz.. :)
4. That I have ZILLIONZ of services running I don't know what they are made for... ;)
5. PS2 RATE DOESN'T WORK !! Noooo.... is there any other program that can do the same cool thing ? I want my mouse at 200 hz ! hehhe L:)
6. Is it normal that I always have 100 mb out of 192 free and still windows a bit slow ?
7. When installing Liveware 3.0 ! for win 2000 I don't have the player installed ?!?!

Except all these things... it aint bad... for now :) hehehe

It's not EXACTLY the same as pro. First it supports up to 8 processors while professional only supports 2. Second it can address more memory than professional. Advancer server has alot more services running as you noticed. Also by default Advance server will boost bacground services and not your applications like windows professional. Advance server supports clustering while pro and the regular server doesn't.
There are some more differences. Not sure if this is still true was for NT 4.0 but pro will have a 10 user connection limit while servers dont have this limit. Just dont believe advance server is basically win2k pro with more services. It's not. It's more like win pro, tweaked and modified a bit to support more features and options.

1. Yes it takes a while to boot because it's a bigger and more complex OS than pro. It takes forever for those services to load.

2. Yeah it's normal for that too, especially if you have AD installed.
3. Not sure what you're talking about.
4. hehe jsut disable the ones you dont use. =( sorry lost the link that describes what each services does.
5. not sure about that one
6. What do you mean by slow? response is slow? well your foreground application doesn't get boosted like win2k pro.

If you're running this for your desktop I would really sugguest goign with windows professional instead, or windows server instead of advance server.

youd have to turn off so many services to get it to run like a desktop system. go with pro unless you plan to use all those services.

WOw.... Thanks... is there a way to remove those unused services ??? :)
*** *** One more thing.. why all my games are running at 60 hz while my desktop is at 85 hz ?? I have an optiquest V75 and the it is loaded in the monitor tab in display properties. ;)

hehe

I was runnin Win2000 Pro and Advanced Server on the same machine and Advanced server seemed faster to me. Live Ware worked fine I didnt do anything special and have no idea why it worked fine for me.

I have run Adv Server and Pro on a machine as well.
once they were both up they were about the same speed.
Pro did boot up quicker though

Liveware is garbage...don't use it. That will solve that problem.
As for your other complaints: what do you expect? It's a server OS. It sounds like you could use something a little dumber...WinME perhaps?

To disable services go to start/program/adminstrative tools/computer management
It'll open up MMC, click on the + next to services and applications. Then click on services and on the right plane it'll list all the services. Double click on the service you want to disable then change startup type to disable or manual. Nnext time you boot these services wont start. To stop a service right away just highlight it and hit the stop button on top. But the services will restart after reboot unless you change the startup type.

Also another tip, if you're using it for desktop is to right click on my computer, hit properties then click on the advance tab, then click on performance options, then make sure applications is checked instead of background services.

Well hope that helps

Thanks

Well, I am using it as home server (FTP) usually and I used it for everything else including gaming. I'll give him a try. :) I might also host my webpage for a while. These were the primary reasons for me installing advanced server pro ! ;)
Too bad gaming won't be as blazing as on win 98 ! hehehe LOL :)

Nt 4.0 workstation or 2000 Proffesional both don't have got a ten user connection limit. Only memory caching is optimized for ten or less connections.

Nasty, For windows NT 4.0 workstation the connection is limited to 10 user. It might not be true for professional but it's definately true for windows nt 4.0 workstation.

Thor_sevan,

Those are not reasons at all to use server much less advanced server. I hope you didn't pay for the os for those reasons.

Anyone know how to add RRAS and TS to Win2k Pro? Actually, I can live without terminal but would really like to use routing instead of ICS.

I doubt someone will pay several thousand dollars just to be used as his OS.
