....they got rid of Cats, Les Miserables...they pretty much only have Phantom of the Opera left...right? Are there any other long-running shows left?

No, thank God. Although some of the shows are getting a bit long in the tooth, especially Rent.
Although there are plenty of lame revivals:
42nd Street, Big River, Cabaret, Chicago, Gypsy, Little Shop Of Horrors, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof...
Way to innovate, guys, way to innovate.

I miss the old shows.

There is nothing the majority of anyone cares about anymore.. except maybe The Lion King.

The the majority of everyone care about Cats and Phantom Of The Opera? These shows sucked the monkey nuts. I have no idea why they appeared so popular.

Les Mis was great, but it had a "normal" lifespan. It's closure on Broadway is lamentable because now high schools can put on their own halfassed performances.

Everyone loves Phantom and its one that most people know about.

Same with Cats.

Even though they might not be great theater they still are in the minds of most people.

Same thing with movies.. people love big budget fun even if it is not "good" in the world of cinema.

Same with books too. Stephen King is going to sell a lot more of his books because they are fun then some lit master who writes in prose. No one cares about things like that.

I know more people that hate Phantom and Cats than I know that actually liked them. And most of them aren't even "Theatre" people.

Cats didn't even have a plot. When I saw it, I would have fell asleep if it wasn't for the juggy white cat.

Shows that deserved to go on for awhile? Sure, they were entertaining for some people.
Shows that deserved to go on for DECADES? No way.
