Only $29.95 at Computer Geeks. Sells for $64. at Global Micro (pricewatch). SCSI 2/SCSI 3 interface. Pretty quick and cheap. A regular 31/2 inch drive. Take off 10% with MC Exclusives discount (use Mastercard). This is a very reasonable back-up to a main SCSI hd.

They just shaved $20. off the 4.5 gig. Check it out. Note, however, the MC Exclusives discount will not work with this special (though it will work with anything else you buy).

Three points to consider before buying:

(1) the drives are used.
(2) because they're older drives, they have low areal density, which means an unspectacular xfer rate despite the higher rpm.
(3) what you're really buying is a used, low-access-time, independent actuator -- a drive that won't transfer data quickly, but won't be busy when other drives are, and will commence data xfer relatively quickly.

Still not a bad deal, depending on how used they are, and if you need a wee bit more performance.

I appreciate the measured appraisal, Wolfgang. I bought one of these, but I've got plenty of spare connectors on the internal 68 pin cable: it means I can sell the old 6 gig ide hd to one of the locals here in Dublin.
