Man that brings back memories. I don't think I ever beat the whole game as a kid because I didn't know to talk to everyone to figure out what to do.

If anyone is wondering what this game is all about, it's basically the Skyrim of the early 90's. It was way ahead of its time in terms of NPC and world interaction.

I have been trying to play this game off and on for years. The graphics are just too old school and I can't make out what the items are on the screen which makes it very difficult to actually play. I dont mean that in a graphics snob way, it's just very hard to make out (especially when searching for stuff). It's one of those games I really wanted as a kid and never got.

Never played the Ultima series, one day I'm going to skip the hack and slash earlier ones and delve into the ones that focus more on roleplaying.

Ultima VII: The Black Gate was my very first computer game. Good ol' 386SX 25MHz computer, ha!

Don't know if I could play it again, but it was amazing when I was 14.

Ultima VI and Ultima VII, part 1 and 2 for me were the best of the Ultima's. Ultima VIII was a real let down after those.

Ultima VIII was arguably WAY better than Ultima IX.

Yeah 9 was unplayable garbage. Unlike most I actually enjoyed 8 quite a bit, even though it was of course less epic than 7. I really liked the atmosphere, plot, and the way you learned all the different magic types.

I remember playing all of the ultimas. Getting sucked in for days at a time. Even back when the dungeons were wire frames and the combat was top down, line up the baddie and shoot.

I remember figuring out that if you put corn husks into the fire you could create pop-corn. That was very cool. And ship battles against sea monsters.

Just all around huge amounts of fun.

This was a GREAT game back in the day. 1995? Have they updated the graphics, or just make it so it'll run on Win 7?
A couple years ago a group used the Dungeon Seige engine and remade Ultima 5, which looked and played great, but 5 wasn't the greatest IMHO.

Pretty sure they bundle it with DosBox and that's it.

It was before that. I think it was 1992 that it was released.

I never did beat the game. Got to the place that Lord Brittish lived, and couldn't figure out where to go from there. Maybe I will pick it up again now and try it out again.

I love the music, I really miss Ultima and that world. I liked the freedom to choose and play how I wanted. I think I just ended up running around doing random stuff mostly. One of my favorite games ever.

MMO's died with Ultima Online for me. I stopped playing back in '02 and havent been able to get into any others. Love that game to death, just got too... overdeveloped.

Ultima 7 had great graphics for its time. It was released in 92.

yeah, but will it run on today's PC's?

Well, you will have to type in: edit autoexec.bat and adjust the stacks and stuff due to the Voodoo memory manager, but after that the math co-processor in the DX chipset will make up for the speed drop. Better hope you have a Tseng Labs ET4000 turbo with 4 megs of V-RAM to cover graphical duties.

28mb d/l, wow. I forgot how economical the code had to be back in the day.

I spent a lot of time with this game back in the day. I still have the original box with all the goodies.

Btw, I never had the DX chip when the game came out. I was just talking rubbish up there :p
