I can just see the people who discovered this. "Wasn't there a bridge here yesterday?!"

Where did they hide it? That's not something you can shove down the front of your pants.

4 tons isn't that much, get a few guys with torches, go out and cut the mounts/bolts, lift it up with a small crane, then chop it up, haul it off somewhere in the middle of nowhere, then cut it up for scrap. People up here are stealing copper/brass plates from headstones, stuff like that for scrap.

lol

'It is the first time we have dealt with this type of theft

I should hope so. 'Uh, yeah, we've experianced a rash of bridge thefts lately. The tally is now up to 14.' Also seems like it would be a bit easy to find the culprits.
"Hey, isn't that bridge in your backyard just like the one that went missing?"
"Uh...no?"

Of course, it's not the first time some light-fingered bridge enthusiast has made off with a bridge. At least two bridges have been nicked in Russia in the past six months, and a pair of bridge thieves appropriated two Macedonian bridges last February

:Q First, the undersea internet tubes and now this??!! We are sooo getting invaded by aliens
