Oh, and it is slightly faked. He changed the gear ratios from stock to something shorter. Had the speedo fixed to compensate, but also had a switch to change the speedo back to reading the old speeds. He's really going ~198 mph at his fastest IIRC. If you believed that speedo and tach, he'd have hit 242 mph.

heh, sorry.

I have not watched the video that's linked (I'm stuck on 56K temporarily) but I can tell you that the Hayabusas are capable of over 200MPH with a mere bolt on turbo kit.

The first year they came out they hit like 198MPH stock, but since then have been neutered a bit to reduce the stock top speed.

In the October 2002 issue of "Sport Rider" magazine they took a 2002 Hayabusa, bolted on a Racecraft turbo kit, and after sorting out the tuning and stuff the best run was 203.4 MPH. The engine produced 228.6 horsepower and 133.4 foot pounds peak torque.

The top speed was taken with a Stalker radar gun, so gearing/speedo calibration doesn't affect the speed reading.

Believe it, sportbikes (especially the Hayabusas) are quite fast.

If I was riding shotgun there's no way he'd get to 220!

I'd have started heimliching him to death when the wheelie got to about 120 and he'd be passed out by the time it hit 150.

Nah, Id rather have one of these.....

999s

Some of you may not like the new styling as much (and the two sided swingarm) but I do like it and besides, check the specs compared to the 998...

Besides....the older bike would get owned......

I don't like the styling much at all on the new Ducatis. That comparison is against the standard 998. Try going up against the 998S or 998R. They'd be much closer.

Silverpig - check this out - made to correct speedo error on Suzuki sportbikes:

YellowBox - that's my exact bike on the top of the page!

You can't switch off speedo recalibrators - like I said earlier, he's running stock speedo system with sprockets that don't have factory tooth count - in this case, he has smaller front sprocket and/or a larger rear one. This makes the speedo error much higher than what it is originally - he's not switching anything on and off, he probably really thinks he's going 220.

Nonetheless, even the 150 or whatever he's going is awesome. I saw 140 (indicated) on Friday on the TLR, probably 125 real speed (stock gearing and sprockets) but its still quite the rush.

Someone posted the explanation in a thread I saw on another board a while ago. He read some posts from the guy who made that video and he said the guy had a speedo re-calibrator that he normally used, but he wasn't using it for that run just so he could make it look like he was going faster.
