I've been eyeing P55 + the i7 860 combo since well before launch.

Their are so many excellent looking motherboards that fit my needs, something i really cannot say for previous platforms.

I have zero need for such an upgrade, but...

God decisions decisions...

By the time the next round of 1366's come out, the Turbo will be on par with the i5 and i7 8xx series. I'm glad I took the plunge on my Classified (nother project not finished) but the new chips are really really temping!

quick! im out of here!!! PPEeeeww

Where's my 6Gbps SAS IOP with 64GB cache per 16X slot, 6Gbps SAS 512GB SSDs, USB 3.0 and 16GB framebuffer display adapters? It's pretty boring if you ask me!

Oh and I forgot to mention 8 socket workstation boards with 1TB memory capability. ;)

I must say I am really disappointed with the new i5/i7 given the anandtech OC results. 920 D0 from microcenter still seems best IMO.

I'm happy with my Phenoms, sure they aren't as fast, but I rarely find the need to run them above 2.0Ghz.

this, only probably for different reasons than you. i have a p45 mobo (16x/dual x8), and i plan on getting a 5870x2 when they launch. now, by christmas time the 5870 will have dropped in price such that getting one to run in trifire would be quite appealing, since i play @ 1920x1200 and i LOVE my eye candy on my 27.5" monitor filling up my whole field of view. now, we have seen several sites running pictorials of the MSI-GD80 "Big Bang" motherboard with a hydra chip on the board, and while p55 doesnt give me any huge gains over p45 normally, with the extra PCIe bandwidth provided by the hydra chip i could consider upgrading to that platform if the scaling claims are true, and there isnt an x58 board out in the sub $280 space that has the chip as well. my only concern is that by the time we really find out, there wont be any more i7 920 CPUs left lol.

I was really thinking about jumping on one of the new chips but I just realized USB 3.0 isn't out yet and the new SATA isn't out yet so I think that may be the right time to jump into debt again :(

The only reason I want a P55 is because it's new. I pushed my i7 920 to 4.0, and I can't imagine anything getting so much faster as to be worth a $400 investment.

Yeah, the more I think about how well the turbo works, the more I want one, but then I think about, *well, i overclock so that negates that decision* but them I'm like, *well, if i run it stock like my Q9650 machine, then that turbo will have a purpose* but then i'm like *well, what else can i use the machine for if i'm overclocking it?* then its like*which one do i get?* then I remember my Q9650 & 8g is way overkill for its current use and then my plans for it later on down the road.

You really want to wait for USB3? What's the point, so your digital camcorder can download faster to your PC? If you play the wait game, you can play it forever.

Hey, its helping me not drop $$$ on a new system :D hehe: besides, I have almost the same system as you.. just haven't completed the build yet. need a really sweet clean-power/low noise-ripple PSU and the one I am thinking of turns out to be slightly incompatible with the EVGA 760 (Enermax Evo 1250) a rep at Enermax, or he was possibly a marketing guy, said the latest 1250 S/N 95xxxxxxxxx are working proplerly with the EVGA 760 - how true that is, i'll be finding out after i get some cash for one...

I'm still very satisfied with what I have so no major upgrades for me. A new video card will probably be my next purchase.

775 still has a lot of life in it. And 1366...I don't think I'll need an upgrade for two years. The question, however, is if I can actually hold out that long :p

I just picked this sweet re-badged Lian Li Full Tower, ABS Black Pearl All Aluminum case for 99$ plus shipping  Now I have the chip, mobo, ram, & Case... gonna recycle some other parts, but still need a sweet, clean-power, low noise-ripple, PSU and the one I am thinking of turns out to be slightly incompatible with the EVGA 760 (Enermax Evo 1250) A rep at Enermax, or he was possibly a marketing guy, said the latest 1250 S/N 95xxxxxxxxx are working properly with the EVGA 760 - how true that is?, i'll be finding out after i get some cash for one...

EDIT: and the case is water cooled ready!!! time to resurect an unfinished h20 project

It's too late for me :( also it sadly coincides with a potentially failing E6420 and/or 8800GTS :(

Are you kidding Axon? Who in the world would 'upgrade' from a Core i7 920 3.5ghz+ to any Core i7 1156 chip today? . . . Man if you got $$ to burn, get an SSD or the new ATi cards.

I opted for the HSPC tech Station and flipped it myself into a top deck model. I change hardware too much to mount it in a case.
