I like some songs from her "Emancipation of Mimi" album. One of her better ones from recent years.

Why not, she's several steps above boyband/pop trollop status.

It's called "Marketing" and "image".
Most popular musicians are popular because of marketing and image.

IMO Very few are actually popular due to their talent and skill.

i used to listen to daydream to help me fall asleep...but seriously what happened to her. At least her new song sounds like the classic mariah. Beany Bob aside, Kelly Clarkson has a damn good voice, check out her VH1 live songs on VH1.com, they sound way better live than the studio album, which is extremely rare.

Yes, a great deal of her popularity is due to her marketing and image, but you cannot deny that she is not without talent and great skill.

Indeed.

You can say what you want about her but she has a great voice. It may be really over done in some of her songs but she a great voice.

I will agree that she has talent. However I personally can't stand her music. (While there are over 1000 bands that I like, I am very picky about what I like to listen to. I tend to keep a closed mind when it comes to music, lots and lots and lots and lots of Metal, some Classical, and some rock ... and that's enough for me.)

Yeah, she can hit a lot of notes and she's attractive.
I still don't care for any of her songs.

I had forgotten how Mariah became so popular in 80s/90s. Her voice is like none other. I actually took a clip of what I'm talking about. Check it out...

I think technique-wise, there aren't many who can pull off abruptly high then low notes like her... (heard in the clip 0:10-0:14 mark)

Where can I find more music with stress-quenching vocal like her? Alicia Keys is good but her voice is more calm...

Nah, it was teh glass shattering thing from that one song I couldnt stand. Ive never even heard that song before.
