So I've decided to eat healthier - not because of any weight issue, but rather to have a balanced diet. So my plan was to start gradually - 2 pieces of fruit or veg/day/week, and then add a new piece each new week. I'm now up to 4 pieces a day, but damn that's a whole hell of a lot of food! Jeez, a whole banana is only one serving - it seems like that much food should count for 2 servings at least.

I'm going to be a blimp soon!

I can say as a matter of fact that it is definitely not fruits and vegetables that have made people fat.

No, they just cause an individual to bloat up like a puffer-fish. Wow, how unappealing is that?

Ahh, NO.

I was as regular as clockwork before I started this healthy crap two weeks ago. That has clearly gone out the window. Now my gut is just some rumbling sort of compost pile - stuff goes in, rots and comes out very infrequently.

your body has been compensating for a crappy diet. switching has undone its careful equilibrium and it will create a new one with time

Eat cheese.

Obviously eating fruits and veggies is not working for you, maybe you should go back to grazing at Dunks like most of those in Mass do and hope your metabolism doesn't change on you as you age.

This is why I suggest just eating pizza with the works.

Gets all 5 food groups in one sitting :p

Got your bread from the crust, dairy from the cheese, meat from sausage and pepperoni, veggies from onions and olives, fruit from tomatoe.

And this way the tomatoe helps prevent prostate cancer they say so one less thing to worry about :p

mmmm pizza....

um... fruits and veggies definitely do not make you fat. they do have a high sugar content, no? high fiber content for some of them, which may add to making you feel fuller.

of course i'm probably wrong. its just that when i eat fruit, i feel really full afterwards. bananas and apples especially, along with peaches. canteloupe i love also. honeydew is good but that's mostly water.

Any food will make you fat. It's calorie intake vs calories expended. If you take in more calories than you use, you get fat. Plain and simple.

Bread, cheese, seeds and nuts are not crap. Look at the food pyramid - they are there!

I must admit it though - I've never really been all that into food. I just prefer bland tasting things.

Some fruits, apples included, have a sweetner in them called sorbitol. This natural sweetner, while very low on the GI scale, can cause excessive gas and bloating in some people because it does not start to break down until it hits the large intestine.

I know I have some NASTY farts when I eat apples.

What else does this, besides apples?
