Yes, I know. Most of us have a rather intense dislike for the popups, but evidently that's what goes well on IE-only corporate intranets (where, I presume, this "Enterprise" version of the software is actually designed to be run), rather than large tech sites where 99% of the population finds popup windows to be a PITA rather than something that's useful.

Yeah, I know. I had popups blocked like a mofuxa, but now I have to allow some through. Grr... I hate popups, even if it is to post on AT.

Here are some directions for allowing pop-ups from forums.anandtech.com for some of the more common pop-up blockers.

1. Google Toolbar: Once you are in the forums simply click the amount of pop-ups blocked to cancel blocking for this page.
2. SP2 RC1 Internet Explorer: Tools Menu, Pop-Up Blocker, Pop-Up Blocker Settings, then add forums.anandtech.com to allowed pages.
3. Firefox .5/Mozilla 1.6: These Mozilla based browsers will allow the pop-up since it is a requested pop-up. (Shamelessly ripped from CTho9305's post.)
4. AdSubtract Pro: In the control panel click Block in the left pane. From there add forums.anandtech.com to the Bypass list.

Not hard! I've done the above for FireFox (which BTW 0WnZ0rZ IE IMO) and I don't have any more problems.

IE under SP2 RC1 allows the popups as well. While the pop-up blocker isnt very feature-rich it is certainly capable of detecting requested popups.

arg, well i have firefox .8 and none of the javascript buttons work, i can only post because of the quick reply window and its normal button:p my ie is updated to most current through autoupdate and it has no popupblocker settings, popups just don't work. disabling norton internet security doesn't work either.

Switch to Mozilla Firefox and you won't have to worry since the popup blocker that is built in works great. :) At least it works great for me. Most popup blockers have a "whitelist" of sites that you want to allow popups from. You may want to add the forums to that list if you can.

The window for reply is extremely common in higher end forums, and we had a pant load of requests for it from the rest of our customers, anandtech is 1 out of thousands. It is not being removed. Pop up blockers should be more intelligent not to blocka popup THAT YOU CLICK ON, only pop ups that are automated, as in open when you hit a page.

So complain to the developers of the pop up software.

thank you slogan for posting this information no matter what Anand engineer guy says many people couldnt freaking post or figure out what the hell was wrong. Finally you post about popup blockers and I immediatly fix my problem of not being able to do anything but read posts since new forums. I was using nortons popup which doesnt allow me to intelligently filter. I have to say that it was definately and oversite on Anands part to not post something about the new forums on the homepage not working if you have your popup filter setup wrong or whatever. Very pissed about that crap.

Luthien, I'm sorry that between dealing with peoples issues, and answering everyones questions that I overlooked posting about how to resolve pop windows. Shall I report to the firing squad at noon? :)

1 guy for 130,000 members and probably over 200-300 posts in 1 day answered and rectified.

Well, I'd been using popup stopper for a year or so. Jettisoned that in favor of google toolbar blocker and all is well.
