Now I am looking a CPU, What's your suggestion? (3.0Ghz up)

Everybody give me a suggestion. Thank you.

I suggest you give us a little more information to go on.

What processor best suits your needs depends on a LOT of factors and you've given none except to set a (seemingly) irrational speed 'minimum'.

What applications will you be using primarily... what do you want the processor to do well?
Are you carrying over any existing components from a previous build?
Are you using an existing power supply or buying a new one?
If you are gaming, what video card are you intending to use?
What is your budget?

MM, my fault. i should be more detail.
Ok, now since up 3.0 just have Intel. Then I lower to 2.0 Ghz. Give AMD a chance ^_^.
I play games. I have 1gb dram, Apollo GEFORCE FX 5200 PCI - 128mb card and I just want to upgrade the CPU to my computer. I don't know is it fit to my MB or not. But at first I like to know what's everybody's best choice to CPU. Then I can have these information to help me decide a CPU or just buy a new computer. Thank you.

With a PCI 5200 you will likely be limited by your video card. CPU won't matter much.

As a gamer myself, I notice no difference between my A64 3000+ at 1.8GHz or overclocked to 2.5GHz in the games I play (WoW, Rome:Total War, and Battlefield2), even with a 7800GT. Most games are not terribly CPU dependent. UT2004 and HL2/CS:S are about the only games that require significant CPU power, even those are quite playable on lower end CPUs.

If you want a CPU to fit in your particular motherboard then you have to tell us what kind of socket/motherboard you have. Most people around here though favor the low end A64 S939 chips for gaming (3000+ / 3200+) because they are adequate stock, cheap, and overclock pretty well too.

wait, what motherboard do you have? what socket? if you have intel in there now, you have to keep intel, or change the mb.

Forget 2.0GHz. I would go with 1.8GHz. The AMD 3000+ Venice is probably THE best processor in terms of price/performance. It costs a little under $150, and can easily go up to 2.7GHz with $40 air cooling.

I Just Got a 4400+ but for pure gaming and definetly if you re willing to overclock I would recommend the 3000+.

Yep, I would get an AMD 3000+ and overclock it to around 2.6ghz which would equal a P4 at 3.9ghz. But as others have said the best thing you can do to improve gaming is upgrade your video card.

If you want to spend a little more, and aren't interested in extreme overclocking you could get a 3700+ San diego. The 3700+ is right around $300 and is a gaming monster, I have one overclocked to 2805mhz (FX-57 speeds) and it rips through games like butter.

AMD FX-57 for my gaming only machine.
AMD 64 X2 4800+ for my normal uses and gaming machine.

Of course you want chill1 units for both of them so you can overclock.

Oh my...that video card of yours is a POS.

For CPU, A64 3000+ would be the best on a budget, or a Sempron if on a really tight budget.
But you really need to get a better video card too...
