If I build a computer, I will probably go with PCI-E, but just for curiosity, is PCI-E offering bigger performance gains over AGP than when it first started?
at the current moment, the only way it really offers performance is in SLI. i would get a pci-e card simply because it will allow you many more upgrading options down the road.
zippo, zilch. too bad i am stuck with this agp mobo for a while. still, i could care less if i don't plan on upgrading as there are no performance advantages over AGP. the 16x does nothing but attract people that don't even know what it is.

Since PCIe cards and motherboards are plentiful and cheap, and with AGP not in any future roadmaps, it makes sense to go PCIe if you are building now.
Unless you are on a very tight budget, and the fact that AGP versions of cards (eg: 6800GT) are quite a lot cheaper than the PCIe versions (~25% cheaper in the UK)
Native PCIe cards like the ATI x850 line will preform slighty (and I mean very slighty) better on a PCIe mobo than its AGP bridged card (probably due to the bridge). One site had a comparison of the two but I cant remember which site it was.
I might be building and reselling computers, so AGP is a big price consideration here. If I would sell it on eBay, I might want to go PCI-E (people who look for gaming computers on eBay actually know what they're looking for), but if I sell it elsewhere, I could probably sell AGP and nobody would know the difference.
