Now getting email spam at my Anandtech account

I just received an email from Charrie Hugo [chariz@netcityjp.com] about some kind of financial garbage. I have aliases for every site I give my email address to (anandtech, newegg, ZZF, etc.) I don't give out my actual email account name. This also helps me track spam and where it originated. While I know AT does a pretty nice trick of inserting REMOVE at random in peoples email addresses, I'm wondering if we need to change it up to stop a bot. It's possible someone personally took my email address and fed it to a spammer out of spite. 😛 If not, it's not a big deal, I'll just change my address to something else. 🙂 Not everyone does this or can do this, but everyone hates spam. Just thought I'd pass the word on.

Someone singed me up for spam too. Ask the spammer (if it's a legit compant) for the IP of the person who signed you up. If the Mods can match it, they will ban the person if he is a member here.

The spam's email address was from netcityjp.com, but the email itself asked me to email mozcom.com with personal information. Mozcom looks like a hosting company. I'd say it's not legitimate. 🙂

You can still check people's profiles (and thus their email addresses) if you're not logged in. You can make your email address if you're so inclined. I'd rather keep it visible for people trying to contact me legitimately, but the option is there.

Oldsmoboat is much more experienced on matters like this.

However, the mods can ban them, but those people can still use your E-Mail address. This is a valid problem, (im sure you know that AT has nothing to do this so no one has to go into that crap). I think you might get a better response if you PM a mod, but make sure you have some good information, and if you have an idea who it is some good proof before you start accusing.

Good luck,
-Kevin
