France has a pretty tangled relationship with a couple African countries... and I can't believe you guys are making jokes about people dying :|

The French has screwed with African nations in the past and they should pay the price of colonization.

EDIT: US has screwed with Iraq and they will pay the price of invasion

sorry .. coudnt resist..

It's a fair statement given the previous statement.

I was hoping this thread died in the early morning hours. I dislike the French right now because of the way they pussed out in Iraq.

I am surprised they won though, maybe someone mixed up the mustard gas with the hairspray in the munitions warehouse? 😛

You have a wrong view of the whole situation. The French politicians like playing with their army almost as much as the US politicians do. Iraq was not about them not wanting to fight ("pussing out"), they just saw a great way to undermine US authority in the world, and exploited it. Its a game all countries play....

In addition why would they want to invade Iraq when they would lose money if they did?

Some people (not you) live in some weird fantasy world where countries are all altruistic. I had to laugh when someone mentioned France helping the US win its independence and connecting it to France's own gains..no way! Wow, it's not as if the US or anyone else ever does that...

It would be nice if they were all altruistic. Sadly they're not, and as much as Bush wanted this to come off as somewhat altruistic (how he said he wanted to help the Iraqis) everyone knows it's not.

As for the French, I dunno, I just dislike them. Political game or not, not helping us pissed me off.

well, guess who "surrendered"

WOW :Q the french army they was actually able to hold off a mob carrying machetes and destroy two jets and five helicopters

maybe if i was from canada like you i would think that thats a huge military conquest 😛 or if youre french you get what you can--which is never much in military terms P

Hey, I dunno about you but with my twisted impressions of the Ivory Coast government and the French army, I was surprised that the Ivory Coast had jets and I was equally surprised that the French were able to shoot them down. No offense intended.

their troops took over the airport and destroyed them on the ground.

Another odd news to note, both France and Ivory Coast were both sharing the airport that the fighter jets flew off from to bomb the French position. 😕

I guess the French guy in the control tower was asleep when they took off?

sorry couldnt resist...he surrendered when they threatened him with a taco bell spork

Isn't the "UN" force 80% American? Yeah, good luck getting those forces France...

Actually last time I checked the USA never listened to the UN anyways.

Actually, the US followed the UN mandate quite well in the first Gulf War. However, we decided to go against it in Somalia.(can anyone figure out the difference in what happened?)

They do. Most of France's military interventions/peacekeeping operations are in former colonies.
