Okay,

So I am installing this update for this program I have and it gave me this installshield self-extracting EXE error:

"The decompression of %s failed. There may not be enough free disk space available in the TEMP directory."

I went in to c:\windows\temp and moved some files out of there but still getting that error. Anyone have a clue as to where this is talking about?

I've also gone to:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=235265

and done the steps and still error. :( I have like 6 gigs left on the drive

You've probably run out of disk space on drive C:. [Edit: Oops... nm. I can't read.]

You can feel free to delete everything in that temp directory. Windows won't let you delete anything it still wants.

You can also try a cleaner like CCleaner.

I have plenty of disk space on C. I've also cleaned out c:\temp c:\windows\temp c:\documents and folders\>user<\current data\temp

Is this on XP or 98? Because the error you linked to is only for Win9x.

Is your file system NTFS or FAT32?

Run/schedule a chkdsk /f.

What application gives you the error?

On XP/2k right-click My Computer, and go Properties --> Advanced tab --> Environment Variables. Follow the instructions in the article you linked (even though it's for 9x) for the folders that TEMP and TMP point to instead of C:\windows\temp\.

If you have Norton Utilities/Symantec SystemWorks installed, then check your "Norton Protected Recycle Bin", and empty it too, if you haven't already. Also clear your IE cache.

Is the file your trying to run on a cd?
If so, it's probably trying to decompress itself on the cd.
