Flashpoint- 6.5/10 - Fairly standard cop movie. Ending fight sequence was kinda too off for my tastes.
Did we watch the same movie? I give it a 9/10 for having some of the best ever fight choreography.

Also you don't appear to be an MMA fan.

We watched the first two episodes last night and liked it quite a bit. Pretty sharp writing and interesting characters. Definitely going to watch the rest of the season.

I thought it got much better as the season went on and the depth of the characters really started to take hold. Of course Allison Williams being in it, I will watch every episode without fail. lol

The Runaways - 6/10
I didn't just watch it, but I was a bit conflicted as to what I actually thought about it. To be fair, this is not an easy biopic to try to make.

Dakota Fanning made for a good Cherie Currie, Scout Taylor Compton was a surprisingly good young Lita Ford...but how the Hell do you find a Joan Jett? Kristen Stewart looks like Joan Jett used to, but has none of the edge to her, no matter how much she tries. It would probably have taken a nobody, after doing many nationwide casting calls, to find an actress capable of pulling off Joan Jett's aura. It's a no win situation, for a Hollywood type movie. Also, interesting lack of Fox. According to Wikipedia, she wanted no part of it.

Then, it was irreverent, not PC, and mostly did a good job, without going sappy. It did miss a few things, though, maybe to try to make sure it could safely be an R movie.

TBH, one thing that got me was actually way at the end. Lita Ford wasn't even mentioned, just before the credits, while the producer, who nobody really cares about, was.

I heard there was supposed to be lots of hot action with Dakota, but it never happened.
Either that or I slept through it.

You nailed it, it definitely evolves quite a bit, starting with the characters. And you nailed it again with the Williams comment :D

Just watched it on netflix. It is a very good movie. Sean W. Scott's performance was amazing. Enjoyed it a lot!

Cool, I forgot it was on there too

The fight choreography was functional, but boring I thought. The fight went on for goddamn forever.

Also the gun fight was ridiculously lame.

Speed 7/10

I wouldn't argue with someone who gives this movie a really low score, but for some reason I took to it and have always enjoyed watching. The title pretty much sums this one up.

Without doing any digging on this movie I have to assume that it only had a bare bones screenplay; much of the dialogue seems improvised on the spot. Sandra Bullock's character in particular seems to have been directed to blurt out anything that pops into her mind, and fun game might be to make everyone watching drink each time she says or screams the same thing twice in a row.

Keanu Reeve's hilarious deeply-voiced attempts at acting are also enjoyable to watch, in a way. They remind us not to take anything in this movie too seriously.

One thing I noticed watching it last night that I had never noticed before - in the bar scene, after Reeves and Jeff Daniels receive their medals, there is moment when the characters group together and I swear I glimpsed a guy who went on to be one of the anchors in Sportsnight as part of the group. He had done some movies before speed (like Dead Poet's Society), so I assume he wasn't just an extra.

His entire part must have been edited out.

Cinderella story. Outta nowhere. A former greenskeeper, now, about to become the Masters champion. It looks like a mirac... It's in the hole! It's in the hole! It's in the hole!

I remember being turned off by The Goon's trailer, because I thought it was a comedy and it didn't look very funny. Well, it's not really a comedy and it was actually a decent movie.

"Oh, this is the worst-looking hat I ever saw. What, when you buy a hat like this I bet you get a free bowl of soup, huh? ... Oh, it looks good on you though."

I definitely wouldn't get along with anyone that doesn't find the humor in Caddyshack funny. Pure gold.

I'd give it an 8. I would rather watch this or Point Break over the Matrix. These are the kind of action movies Keanu Reeves should have kept doing, not Matrix, Constantine, etc.

You know one thing I've always loved about speed?

They completely forget about Jeff Daniels shot-up leg when he leads the team to storm Dennis Hopper's house. He even vaults through a window, when earlier that day he could hardly stand without the help of a cane.

But you know what? Speed doesn't make any pretenses that it's about anything other than than..... well, speed. So it doesn't bother me a bit.

It's just fun to find those types of things.

Matrix 3 is crap. Matrix 2 is a decent action movie.

The original Matrix is a sci-fi masterpiece, it is one of my favorite movies of all time.

That said, I really like Speed.. extremely watchable and entertaining.

I prefer Matrix 3 to Matrix 2; the cave rave alone is enough to make me write part 2 off. Absolutely unbearable.

I've never seen Speed, so can't comment on that one.

Speed is good at what it tries to be popcorn fare. If you think about it too much you will start hating it. While I did enjoy speed i cannot stand Jan De Bont's other movies like Twister or Speed 2.

THE TREE OF LIFE (9/10)
I heard how polarized people are of this movie--you either hate it or love it. Personally, I thought it's a wonderful movie with gorgeous cinematography. While the story itself is a bit hard to grasp and atypical of a Hollywood narrative, I think people miss the point if that is what they're expecting of this movie. After the movie ended, I thought about it for a bit and I think the best way to approach this movie is treat it like eating your favorite slice of pie--it invokes all the good memories and emotions of your childhood and all that the memories entail--love, loss, anger, family, friendship, etc.

On a technical standpoint, you can pause the film at any given moment and the composition and lighting is immaculate. One of the most beautifully shot film I've ever seen, but what else do you expect from Terrence Mallick?

I'm in the "hate it" demographic. I couldn't finish it...which NEVER happens with me and a film. It was less memories and emotions of childhood, and more planet earth for me. Once it got to the dinosaurs...yeah...I was done.

We Need to Talk About Kevin - 4/10

Wow... what a disappointment. This had a fairly decent rating on RT (76%), and I read some other good things on it on IMDB. Most of the expert reviewer's comments make note of the acting performance by Tilda Swinton, and yes, she did a great job, but the story just seemed like something I had already seen a few times before. Kid is actually crazy, and puts on a fake act for one parent (the father), and shows his true nature to the mother. Not good at all, I'm not even sure if it's worth the 4/10 I gave it. Would NOT recommend.
