The Orville S03E01

.. starts with a prolonged CGI space battle that is directed as if it is supposed to excite me, you know, in a adventure film kind of way. And then there's a scene where a crewmember is laterally accused of treason, while being visibly shunned by his crewmates.
But this is The Orville. It's a fucking COMEDY show. Jokes about boobs and farts.
Seth keeps forgetting what show this is supposed to be; i would be more than happy for him to write a actually-serious show, i'm absolutely not piegeonholing him, but you gotta stick with a tone, man. Yet another example of a fairly major production failing at a very, very basic point of filmmaking.

The Requim 1.5 out of 10

This is probably the worse film of the last 10 years. If you want to see a poorly aged Alicia Silverstone chew the scenery, cry. moan, squeal and scream for 2 hours, this might be for you. Unrealistic, poorly shot and annoying are the best comments I can make, Watched it with the SO and waited for something to happen that was believable. Didnt happen. Kept rooting for the sharks and Fisherman stole the show.

Not strictly a movie or TV show, but a 45 minute documentary on youtube where Gary Sinise took a ride in the U-2 plane to 70,000 feet. Great watch-tons of info new to me about the plane. I was absolutely astonished at how many people were involved in each flight and how close they were pushing to the edge on every flight. Well worth the watch, 9/10.

i watched The Legend Is Born: Ip Man 3 - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1641638/reference/

available only in Chinese w/ subtitles.
Nowhere near as good as the previous films.
Ip Man 1 was a good film, the builds up to a big fight, focused and doesn't waste time, with a modicum of character development, and even a small character arc at the end.
Ip Man 2 was more of a "let's show a buttload of fights" with less realism, but still watchable, if you don't mind wuxia.

5.5/10 - boring, aimless and - worst offender - badly shot. Don't do kung-fu films if your cameraman sucks.

The Happytime Murders (2018)

A more adult/teen oriented muppets movie. It was fairly amusing, probably a lot funnier with friends, booze and/or weed.

i ALSO watched The Happytime Murders - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1308728/reference/

because why not.
It starts pretty decent, a serious noir masquerading as a comedy, but eventually flips to being a comedy masquerading as a noir. With puppets.
Same kind of sex jokes as Team America, same script as every "hot blonde commits murder" film.
Pretty decent show from Melissa McCarthy. Fine "acting" from the puppets, but the script reeeally needs some work.
Nowhere near as good as Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

6.5/10 if you are into that kind of stuff.

i also watched The Banishing - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7329642/reference/

i have been slowly working my way through all of the films by director Christopher Smith, the guy behind the absolutely brilliant Triangle, and i have been thoroughly disappointed.

Sometime during the pre-war period, in a english parish somewhere rural, a new minister is appointed to a church, and the parish house is haunted.
There is the crazy old man (not old in this film, but *that* character) who expositions the whole plot, but obviously they don't believe him.
Wife, priest and daughter all trip balls seeing outwordly shit, eventually accepting that the must perform A BANISHING.

The visual scares, the outwordly shit, is pretty inventive, but the narrative, the visuals, are horribly disjointed. Also, Smith tries to set up a "i cannot believe it's true" setting, but the result is simply that the first half hour is horribly tedious.

I've enjoyed his film The Black Death, it was ok, and Triangle is excellent, but the rest, bleh.

5.5/10 and it's a stretch, you reeeally need to love horror films.

The Boys (season 3). 7 /10

Only watched the first episode, and just when you think they can't top some of the more memorable ways to die. In fact, the opening scene when they were

looking for the Termite guy at the party. That whole "I want you in me" death scene was "nuts".

No Time to Die (2021)

I think the aim for this film was to repeat the success of Casino Royale, there's a lot of personal intrigue in this film. I think the film is let down a lot by the 'deadly manufactured virus' macguffin, because everything in this film depends on the utter absurdity of sane and competent people creating it. It was a nice idea, but taken far too far.

Mother of all spoilers and my main criticism of this film:
The film was an engine for an emotional investment into Bond's death, right from the start with the OMHSS theme playing after Bond says the line, "we have all the time in the world", and alt-007 asking for Bond's 007 codename to be reinstated, it's a huge long setup only for "James Bond will return" to appear at the end of the credits to make the entire thing completely pointless. I was deeply disappointed in this film, because I thought up until that point it wasn't bad, though it's no Casino Royale. I don't care how Bond is going to miraculously survive being at the epicentre of a missile strike, it would be like coming up with an absurd explanation for Vesper surviving, it just cheapens the preceding plot. Maybe they'll reboot it again. I can't say I care particularly.

I find ep 2/3 >> ep 1, ep 1 was all about memorable ways to die, others were more story-driven.

I had heard that Morbius was bad but those reviews don't do it justice. One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Sony doesn't know what they are doing when they make one of these movies.

Jared Leo is, in my opinion, the worst actor of his generation. But after watching this steaming pile it's clear that this guy, this Matt Smith, is trying really hard to usurp the throne.

Hell, Sony went so far as to rip off the Usual Suspects!

Top Gun
Company is run by senior citizens who are still wearing their old clothes from the 80's.
Senior citizens scold boomer who crashes exotic going faster than the speed limit but still offer him a contractor job because his buddy from years ago pulled some strings.
Boomer prevents millennials from advancing in the company after going through the motions with HR and just taking the position himself.
Announces that he used to bullseye womp rats in his T-16 back home and that they're not much bigger than two meters.
Announces that “It's a small thermal exhaust port, right below the main port. The shaft leads directly to the reactor system. A precise hit will start a chain reaction which should destroy the station.”
After burning out both his eyes and her eyes by riding around without any sort of helmet or eye protection at night, bangs teary eyed skeleton lady because he used to jerk off to her back when she looked hot and midgets have to take what they can get.

Movie ends with 5 year olds (which have been green screened out) running around with model airplanes going pew pew pew

The boys season 3.

Still got it.

Definitely have created one of the most hateable villains and unlikeable anti hero.
