Think Like A Man - 9/10

Movie was hilarious. I think I laughed throughout the entire movie. Only knock I might give is that its a bit long at 2 hours with the turning point of the movie taking a bit. It was well worth the ticket price.

Black Mirror - 8.5/10 (overall): http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2085059/ A three episode UK dramatic sci-fi (well the latter two episode anyway) program commenting on technology and the world around us. The three episodes are entirely independent of each other (none of the same characters or anything, completely different worlds and stories), but they are attached in how they are presented and the overall commentary. Individually:

Episode 1 - 9/10: A kidnapping story surrounding the Prime Minister and a royal. It's very quick-paced and brings up an interesting discussion of morality, social media, media in general, and even gender roles.

Episode 2 - 7.5/10: A futuristic, dystopian world where people pedal bikes as their avatars for credits to buy stuff and go onto shows (all watched by the other avatars). This is the weakest episode. I liked many of the elements they showed here, but I thought the world was a little flimsy and story was something I had seen before. Not bad, but nowhere near the quality of the other two. Felt a little THX 1138 to me.

Episode 3 - 9.5/10: Awesome. Takes place in a world where people have small chips implanted in their heads to record everything they see and hear and gives them the ability to watch it at anytime, or even put it up on a screen wherever you are. I won't say much more, but it gets into some very interesting relationship stuff between friends and family and it does so much in the ~50 minute episode that I honestly wanted it to keep going. Could have easily watched a feature length film of this story. Great concept executed very well.

Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows - 8/10
I wanted to like this more than I did, but the movie seems like more of a collection of cool and funny scenes, instead of a brilliant detective story worthy of Sherlock Holmes. The final showdown with Moriarty actually added 1 point to the rating. In fact, the Holmes vs Moriarty scenes were really the only thing that worked in the movie. Those scenes are why I gave it an 8. Otherwise, it was like a series of trailers strung together. Everything was well done, but in a day I sure I will forget everything except the Moriarty encounters.

Suits: Season 1 - 10/10
TV series on USA Network about college drop-out with a photographic memory, who accidentally lands a job with one of New York's best firms. Its hard to say why this works, but it does. Purely character driven, and just about everyone is likeable and you want to see them on the screen. The one character you're not supposed to like is still well written and not simply a caricature of a by the books antagonist. The one thing that seems a little contrived is the constant threat of the lead being exposed. Hopefully they'll move off that, as this show could have easily been about a first year lawyer with a legit background and it wouldnt have hurt the series. Kinda like how Psych wrote themselves in a corner with the psychic detective schtick that they have to reference every show, but no one cares about anymore.

Fairly Legal: Season 1 - 9/10
I like this pretty much for the same reason I like Suits, except its really just the lead character that holds to series together. Sarah Shahi is just so likeable, and its a refreshing change to see her expand her range, as compared to her character in Life. Anyways, she plays former lawyer turned mediator that has get along with her same aged step mother, who happens to also be her boss, as she tries to hold her late fathers law firm together.

Camelot: Season 1 - 9/10
Pretty good updating of the King Arthur tale. I cannot stand the actor they chose for Arthur...looks like a weenie stoner, but the series is driven by Morgan and Merlin. Plus, Morgan (Eva Green) is naked like 50% of the time she is on screen. This is much better than I thought it was going to be. If you like Spartacus, Game of Thrones, etc, this is on par.

While reading your review of Sherlock Holmes 2, it just struck me that the actor that plays Moriarty also plays David Robert Jones in FOX's Fringe show. Interesting how that just popped into my mind.

In regard to the movie itself, I'm not sure why, but I have such a hard time getting into the Sherlock movies. I've seen them both in the theater, and they're interesting movies, but they fail at truly gripping me in the plights. I would probably never even see any of the movies if Robert Downey Jr. wasn't in them.

Hmm I've seen this on, but I've never really taken the time to watch it. Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to be on Netflix Instant Watch. I already watch a bunch of USA shows (Royal Pains, Psych, Burn Notice and White Collar)... so what's one more? :p

Although, I have to disagree about Psych. They really don't spend much plot time with Shaun worrying about keeping his cover of being a psychic. Maybe every few episodes, they'll have something about it like with Gus taunting Shaun at the fortune teller. The one thing that they have been doing over time is making him into Captain Obvious. In the first few seasons, they would always highlight (i.e. have him notice) some obscure item or thing in the room. In the last few seasons, they always highlight this incredibly obvious thing that they've already been focusing on for the last few seconds anyway.

Why even focus on things if they're made ridiculously obvious like that?

Hunger Games in IMAX -

6/10 - Its a solid Popcorn flick that's a decent feel good story with all the elements of a Hollywood movie, romance, action, fantasy.

Camera work - not a fan of the shaky hand and blurry out of focus shots.

Costume design & sets - pretty freakin epic

Character development was weak, very weak -plot was thin as well.

Hunter Prey 7/10

A low budget sci-fi flick on Netflix that is really quite good if you love sci-fi like I do. Sat in my queue forever.

Yeah, it was a great casting choice. Seems up to the task intellectually, but because of his facial features he is also somewhat physically menacing.

Yeah, there is something off with these movies. I like some of the updating like they way he analyzes his fights and the way they shoot it, but the movies in general are just...superficial. I guess it doesnt help that Sherlock on BBC is done so well from the master detective point of view.

I watch it in syndication, and the tv station (Ion) puts on like 6-8 episodes in a row, and the psychic thing is at the point where they even make fun of the fact that he is going through the psychic motions. They use it as a device in every episode to get in on the case, and then he has to fake like he is getting psychic vibes, when I think people who are still watching the show dont really even care about that anymore. Even the characters in the show act like those antics are kinda played out. Sometimes they get a good joke out of it, but he could have easily been a regular private detective ala Sherlock Holmes.

The Captain Obvious comment is on point, and its funny cause in some of the later episodes I've seen Gus is beating him to the punch on clues. And the characters in the show picked up on his clue squint. I'm just starting on Season 6, so I dont know how its doing now.

MI: Ghost Protocol - 7.8 - Perhaps the best of the franchise. Liked it more than Dragon Tattoo. I liked Pegg's role, and Renner's character grew on me
after they revealed him to be a highly trained field agent. Prior to that point he was getting on my nerves.

The fight analyzing thing is nifty, but I think it sort of fails because it essentially submits the audience to the same fight sequence twice in a row. At the end,
it was a bit more interesting when they showed that Moriarty could do the same thing
, but that essentially just extended the scene.

I don't really mind him doing the whole psychic finger-to-forehead thing since they don't make too big of a deal out of it. The only thing that I would get tired of is if they kept the whole skeptical thing going on from the first season where Lasseter kept trying to prove Shaun is a hack for ruining the fling with his partner.

They have made a few jokes this season about the finger thing.

Season 6 is the latest season that just ended... I think two weeks ago.

I'm a big Psych fan. I thought the latest season was pretty good. A lot of the jokes are the same but they do a good job creating fun and new scenarios. The Shawn/Gus duo hasn't gotten old at all, at least for me

The Five-Year Engagement - 9/10: I actually really enjoyed this movie. I don't laugh much at most comedies, but this one got me going several times. Minus 1 point for the obvious love interest twist (see: every romance movie of all time).

When they do it in real time there is usually a difference, as his initial analysis finds any flaws in his attack/defense.

It seems like the characters know he is not psychic, but he gets results so it doesn't matter. I guess at this point its the best way to handle it.

IP Man - 7/10. Good, not great story based loosly on the real life of Yip Man. The cinemetography was awesome. I'd give cinemetography a 10/10 along with the fight sequences. Maybe I've seen too many movies. There wern't any plot twists really. Thus the 7/10 rating. I did not even know it was based on someone till the very end which was a nice bonus. It is good eniough that I do plan on watching Ip Man 2. I also was not very happy with the subtitles. SOmetiems they were not there long enough to read them. And at some times, the engliush was hard to understand as the setnece structures were often a mess. In general, a very well done kung fu movie.

Been in my queue for a while also. Is it good sci fi or just crap with bad acting, bad writing. Horrible direction, etc. Does the movie bring anything new to the table or is it just the same story with different characters?

Still in the middle of this where they haven't gotten to that yet. Bored. I guess I'll just finish it.

They fcked up the Hulk again? I'll have to see it for myself, have high hopes that Whedon would finally do Hulk some justice.

Can't wait to see this movie.

Oh btw, Cabin in the Woods - 8/10: Excellent satire of modern day horror films and loved all the cliches they poked fun at. The rampaging unicorn was epic. I also liked the pacing of the film, allowing the audience to figure things out as the characters did. While I wasn't a huge fan of the stoner character, he did add some humor to the film early on. It did seem to drag in certain parts, but overall very well done and much more clever than Scream.

Nop, I said "Hulk = lol," because, the Hulk was actually quite funny and very badass in the movie. Like others have mentioned, I think he stole the show, and the casting for the Hulk this time around was excellent. Again, I WILL watch Avengers AGAIN. I really enjoyed the movie. Like I said earlier though about the F-35, it still very much bothers me. Why go through all that funding, and really screw up the specifics of US' next premier multi-role fighter aircraft? That's blasphemy.
Dual cannons? Wrong intake doors? Wrong model? Wrong exhuast? Wrong helmet? Wrong cockpit w/ HUD? All friggin wrong. What a complete cheap-out.
Here's what the F-35B actually looks like:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/lockheedmartin/7117061193/in/photostream
No guns in the B model, JHCMS helmet, and no HUD damn it. Get it right.
It's so different from what's depicted in the movie.

Wrath of the Titans: 6.5/10

I actually enjoyed the first one a lot (despite what everyone else says). I liked how they showed the gods having diminished power. They actually had quite a bit of potential for "Wrath," but I felt as if they edited out a bunch of stuff just for the sake of length and flow of the movie. I'll probably have to hope for some sort of director's cut for Wrath of the Titans. You can't just waste away this kind of awesome cast and really cool special effects with that.

For anyone that has seen The Avengers, is the 3D worth it at all? The theater that I go to added two more midnight showing screens, but they're not 3D. Personally, I don't really like 3D that much as it is, but if I hear the 3D in the movie is good, I might want to at least give it a shot.

I just checked my local theatre and I'm pissed because they are only showing 3D this weekend. Guess I'll be waiting a couple of weeks to see this one. Too bad because I really want to see it.
