dawn of the planet of the apes - 10/10 - HOLY SHIT THIS MOVIE WAS INCREDIBLE! this movie was simply spectacular! there was really nothing i could say that i did NOT enjoy about this movie. my wife had to go to the bathroom at one point in the movie, and i was super happy that there was still 40 minutes left in the movie. the first 1:20 went by so fast. the visuals ... holy shit, one of the few movies i'll watch the special features of to see how they did this stuff. and the sound was amazing as well. watched it in 3D too and the 3D was very nice as well.

I didn't see it in 3D, but on the big screen it was great. I really liked the movie itself.

Yea, I was pleasantly surprised I liked it as well as the first.

Still haven't watched it, but I will I imagine.

Not going to go in thinking it to be Saving Pvt Ryan, Schindlers List,The Thin Red Line,Hamburger Hill type of movie, I guess.
it's not bad by any means, but it can be disappointing if one expects a masterpiece

@everyone else
wow, so the last planet of the apes is really that good ? i'll put it in my watch list. 20 ATOTers cannot be wrong.

Rage - 7/10: 2014 Nic Cage movie - interesting twist on a mob-hit / revenge story. Worth checking out.

It might sound lame, but as someone mentioned older movies, I'm still surprised how much I like Dances With Wolves when HBO puts it on now and then.

Worth watching if the younger crowd has never seen it.

I'd put it on my top 100 if I had a list personally.

I've still never seen this movie. Might have to queue it up on Netflix. I actually forgot about it.

I own Dances With Wolves, but I've never had the courage to sit down and actually watch it.

When it comes to time spent watching this movie. All I can say is 'Good...trade'.

Let's Be Cops - 4/10. This just wasn't up there with the buddy movies of late. It made me laugh perhaps once or twice, and I'd already seen those parts from the trailer. It is the average underachievers find something and make good, get the girl, and redeem themselves movie. Also, it was surprisingly filled with profanity. Not worth it, IMO.

It is a line from the movie. You will understand it once you watch it. Also, tatonka.

Not understanding your choice of words or this personal impasse of yours, Len. Would you expound on what you mean?

All I can say, and I'm more than sure you've read and heard this before, is that it's a gorgeously mounted and through and through well told movie. You know how Paris, Texas is a small-scale gem? Well, Dances is, imho, a large scale gem.

What I mean is, all the many small stories in the movie are absolutely in sync with and beautifully serve the overarching story.

I'd go so far as to call it a masterwork, a huge movie with many moving pieces and not one wrong note, large or small. It's one feast of a movie in all its harmonious parts, from the primitive mule skinner through the curious wolf, just to name two small supporting roles, so perfectly rendered.

Dances with Wolves is a damn fine flick and you shouldn't hesitate to watch it just because Costner delivered some turds afterward.

Well it's a long, 90's Hollywood Costner epic that honestly looks a bit tedious. I mean I watched The Postman a while back and it was a grind, so I expected more of the same here. Plus I have always considered it to be a Western and I am not really a fan of Westerns in general.

I also think I still hold a bit of a grudge against this movie since it beat out Goodfellas for Best Picture that year. I used to care more about those things when I was a kid; I should probably move on at this point.

Lol, the reason Costner so easily got all that money to make all those tedious turkeys is because Dances With Wolves was so damn fine.

Goodfellas was an excellent picture; Dances With Wolves is an almost transcendent one.

I guess you feel about Westerns that way I feel about vampire movies. Eh, de gustibus non est disputandum.

Let me ask you, did your dislike of Westerns keep you from appreciating True Grit . . . or even, say, Little Big Man or High Noon?

Since you have the viewing time right now, I advise putting your expectations -- negative or positive -- aside, and just watching the damn thing. :p

Haha, good point on Costner, though I kind of like the absurdity of Waterworld. :hmm:

Was not a big fan of the original True Grit; I found John Wayne kind of awful sorry to say. I liked the Coen Brothers remake though. I've not seen the other two you listed. Really the only other Westerns I enjoyed were most of the Leone films. The Leone films have a certain flair I find lacking in most other Westerns.

Ok, I guarantee to watch Dances With Wolves this month, I just need to watch The Battle of Algiers and Once Upon A Time In Anatolia first.

Yeah, it kind of got pushed out and I've always preferred Casino for some reason. It may get back in there at some point; need to give it a re-watch. I do love the movie, I just love a few others more.

Yeah, I intentionally linked to the Coen Brothers remake. I feel the same about the original, about John Wayne in it and about John Wayne in general.

Ah whoops, I just assumed it was the original due to the other movies mentioned. :$
