Death Note (anime): almost all of the first season. - 6/10. The GF started this and got much more excited than a 24 year old girl should over it, so I sat through like the last 28 or so episodes. Not terrible, but certainly not the best. It is not first season of Gurren Lagann, but it was acceptable to have on the TV while I read.

I found the movie trilogy to be much better than the anime series personally.

I liked Snowpiercer quite a bit too, but you do have to ignore the blatantly stupid premise of the train.

Snowpiercer is a really deep movie and the train is mostly symbolic.

Personally I enjoyed the movie but I found the whole concept depressing. It's a real stab in the eye on modern society. Someone asked in my Healthcare thread why not mention the good things with poverty. Well this movie right here illustrates that question quite well.

I'm sure it's good, not great. But do I want to go out into the NYC cold, or sit home and play little big planet 3...

I will probably be roped into watching those as well, so I might report back.

Also, apparently, every time the subtitles read "Damn!" I was the Japanese equivalent of our expression "Shit!".

Revolutionary Road - 5.5/10

Revolutionary Road is a very well made bore. The plot was very thin, and the lead characters weren't interesting or sympathetic enough to pick up the slack. The 15 or so minutes Michael Shannon was on screen was about the only time I was entertained.

boring?... did you watch until the end? is not THAT bad imo, good performances by shannon and Winslet.

House at the End of the Street - 5/10 - Only watched it for Jennifer Lawrence. Ya, um, it's a "horror" movie. Will not watch again. Overall reveal/ending wasn't the best.

I did finish it, and I enjoyed the final scene of the movie, with the old man turning off his hearing aid so he wouldn't go nuts listening to his blathering wife. That scene and the scenes with Shannon, had a great black comedy vibe that effectively expressed the films themes, but the straight drama of the rest of the movie failed to grab me in any way. I did just find out that Roger Deakins was the cinematographer, so no surprise the film at least looked great.

I Frankenstein 8 out of 10, except the last 3 minutes of the movie, which
was a bit too generic of an ending for me. I wish the ending had been as
creative as the rest of the movie. Still, probably the best "Frankenstein's Monster"
movie that I've seen so far.

I just rented and watched The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
5-10. 5 for effort.

I just liked the "old" spiderman style a lot better. The way the actors play, the movie ambiance, the music. I do not like the sony spiderman very much.

I should note, i have a friend who got me into electronics and he and Stan Lee could be twins. For real.

You mean the Sam Rami Spiderman films. Spiderman 1, 2, and 3 were Sony just like Amazing Spiderman 1 and 2. They even used the Spiderman 1/2/3 font for the *Sony* Playstation 3 from 2006 through 2010. Ken Kutaragi fought for it.

I actually thought the first Amazing Spiderman from Webb was decent. I really enjoyed Stone and Garfield together, but the second one was a freaking mess. Too many villains and the whole break up, get back together thing made no sense. A real shame.

I just can't shake that the only reason it exists is because the rights would revert to Marvel if Sony didn't continue making movies with it. Use it or lose it. Because Sam Rami and Toby McGuire were done, it meant rebooting the series way too soon just to hold on to those rights. That movie alone is responsible for The Avengers being made without Spiderman. Creativity and passion were not motivating its creation.

Spiderman was making them money even when everything else Sony made was losing money so they didn't dare let it go. Bundling Spiderman Blu-Rays with PS3s was an attempt to use it to move other Sony stuff back when it was having trouble taking off. I think they even used the movie in Bravia/Weg advertisements. They've had the rights since Marvel was struggling with bankruptcy so they really got a sweetheart deal on them. No way they are letting that go any sooner than they have to.

Same reason why they keep making X-men movie.

When the Game Stands Tall - 5/10. Got to see it for free at a small theater so cant complain....but the movie just was...meh. It just jumped around a lot. Like it would have a segment about one thing and then just cut into another thing. It just didnt flow together very well at all. Then parts you thought would be bigger ended up being pretty small and they just sort of skimmed over it. They also mention somethings and then just sort of leave them open ended by the end of the movie.

i dunno i left feeling like the studio just went "o look a simple story we can make money off of", tossed a small amount of cash to make a script and rushed it out.

sin city 2: a dame to die for - 9/10 - really liked this movie. i wasn't that excited to watch it but my wife wanted to watch it (between this and edge of tomorrow, i wanted to watch edge of tomorrow) but man i'm glad we watched it. i was really engaged from the get go. i liked it more than the first one (although i don't remember much about the first one to be honest), and i loved the art style in it. and holy crap, the sound track was also very good in this movie.
