dumb and dumber to - 6/10 - as expected it could not live up to the hype. i'd definitely give the original a 10/10 and still to this day one of my favorite movies and it never gets old, but this one just felt like they were "trying" to be harry and lloyd of the past, and not actually BE the characters. now that said, there were some HILARIOUS parts, like big time LOL parts. and i definitely picked up on some subtle jokes that took a second or two to get, so i'm betting on a second watch there will be more of those too. but overall it just felt like they couldn't quite get the same feel of the original, which isn't surprising. i also feel that them LOOKING older but trying to act the same just felt somewhat off.

Alot of good comeidies are like that. Even today when I watch Dumb and Dumber for the 51st, 52nd and 53rd time I notice new jokes that I somehow missed. The comedic timing in Dumb and Dumber is perfection. The little side jokes are hilarious. And the obvious jokes are killer. And they always go back to previous gags like Peetie being on "A Current Afair". Fricikin hilarious.

I as hoping D+D2 would have the same great elements but I somehow knew it wouldn't. But then again, once on DVD there might be alot of things in it that were missed on the first watches.

I thought Rushmore was dreadfull till I found out a friend loved it. Then I watched it a second time .. a third time. etc. That movie is incredible but you might miss alot of hte jokes the first time through.

Please do.

I re-watch D&D last night and I had forgotten the second part of the gloves joke and it made me laugh my ass of. Harry is strangling Lloyd and Lloyd is making dying noises but just says 'ack, Harry, your hands are freezing'! I laughed so hard. :D

KT

Statistically, you are more likely to die on the way to the airport than on the actual flight.

I can't tell you how many times I saw the movie before I noticed the explosion in the background during the scene that was presumably caused by Harry.

Dumb and Dumber

Random fact:
Seasbass - played by Cam Neely of the Boston Bruins.

Funny Fact:

I think many miss this because it is hard to read (atleast in the VHS days). Back in the day I had to pause the VHS tape a few times at different points in the movie to read the hat. Who here has read the hat?

Interstellar

Not a usual Christopher Nolan film. It is epic, has a sharp-eyed view of the future, and characters with real human emotions. I really like this ambitious, thought-provoking, uplifting film.

who would of imagined a movie about a train going round and round could be good. Snowpiercer parts were very good and good acting but a train going round and round and round and round and round and round...

Ah, that's what I figured. Still torn on whether I should go see it in the theatre; may just go see Birdman instead and wait for this on demand or on Blu.

Wine 'em, Dine 'em, 69 'em?

I may be confusing with another flick from that era, but I'm pretty sure that's from 'ol Seabass.

No lying--I've seen Dumb n Dumber several dozen times.

are you guys serious? i really liked the first two movies but the trailers for the new movie look pretty terrible.

[edit] finally watched hunt for red october. 8/10. sean connery was bad ass in the movie. for some reason every time i see alec baldwin i think of donaghy. it's a really suspenseful movie. some of the effects are really dated. i wonder if people would be ok if they cleaned up some of the scenes? like the blue screen stuff at the end of the movie?

First two movies? there was only one D&D movie until this one.

:hmm:

I still really want to see Birdman. I feel that the last ~25 years of culture has been tragically bereft of Keaton.

Watched the first two episodes of the last season of The Newsroom.

I like the show because the dialogue reminds me of the dialogue I saw in some of those old hollywood screwball comedies from the 30s-40s that I saw on TCM as a kid.

Sure the show has flaws that can be criticized but overall imo it's a good show.

8/10 for the last season so far. 7/10 for the series has a whole up to this point.

Under Her Skin with Scarlet Johannson 9/10

What a surprise. One of the most unique and interesting sci-fi movies I've seen in a long time. If I didn't know better, I would have sworn this was made in the 70's or 80's, because it is artistic and non-formulaic. I highly doubt the majority will love this movie, but if you love sci-fi, you should see it.

Godzilla (new one) 7/10

Far better than the semi-cheesy Mathew Broderick remake. While it incorporates many of the themes from the originals, I found it to be an interesting take on Godzilla. If only the obligatory 'things too close together' scenes were removed, I'd rate it higher (like warships 200 feet from a swimming Godzilla with Godzilla's wake dissipating 10 feet from it's body, and helicopters swooping super-close to get off a shot).

I keep forgetting this one as I missed it when it was out. Need to add it to the watch soon list....

You're not counting Dumb & Dumberer?

He's refusing to acknowledge its existence. My friend and coworker worked on the production of that movie, which is weird to discuss since the movie doesn't exist. :hmm:

The Machine - 8/10 (Streaming on netflix)

Pretty interesting depiction of a rise of an Artificial Intelligence. There are some really cool parts with Turing tests as well.

So many lines are "my favorite lines that that flick." That one is particularly great because at that time when my buddies and I would be wrestling or whatever, and sometimes while skiing, that line was always the winning move.

All you had to do was say it, and your assailant would be immobilized by laughter.

Quick question for the people that saw Interstellar but was the music extremely loud at times to the point where not only was it hard to hear them talking but actually started to hurt?

I don't mind loud explosions as they are usually over quick but the music at times lasted for awhile unless it was the theater that screwed something up.

No, the audio was normal. For what it's worth I saw it in 4K at AMC theaters.

Revolutionary Road - 5.5/10

Revolutionary Road is a very well made bore. The plot was very thin, and the lead characters weren't interesting or sympathetic enough to pick up the slack. The 15 or so minutes Michael Shannon was on screen was about the only time I was entertained.

Death Note (anime): almost all of the first season. - 6/10. The GF started this and got much more excited than a 24 year old girl should over it, so I sat through like the last 28 or so episodes. Not terrible, but certainly not the best. It is not first season of Gurren Lagann, but it was acceptable to have on the TV while I read.
