Apple Store

-LED backlit IPS screen
-24" 1920x1200
-Integrated webcam, speakers, microphone, and USB ports

I chatted with Apple this morning and they said this monitor is ONLY for laptops. There are no adapters and it only accepts a Mini DisplayPort connector. My guess is that the next Mini and iMac computers will have the Mini DisplayPort built-in with an option for a $20 adapter for HDMI, DVI, VGA, S-video, Composite, whatever, and that Mini DisplayPort cards will be offered for the Mac Pro. Maybe. Haha.

Looks awesome, but honestly, if I was going to get another monitor for my MBP I would just get a regular 24'' LCD. I already have the webcam, some good speakers, and a USB hub... so I already have most of the features. :p

Well, the big point of the monitor is the LED backlighting - that's what makes it stand out from the crowd. Better colors, darker blacks. Why they don't offer an adapter for the rest of their models is beyond me...they're shooting themselves in the foot my not letting anyone else buy this but laptop users (NEW laptop users at that!).

I'm sure they will sell DVI-to-mini port adapters soon...how are previous MBP users going to upgrade to the new ACD without it?

So this is also an IPS screen then? I wonder then if the revised iMac 24" will have this same panel, LED backlit.

$900 doesn't sound as bad when it's an IPS screen, plus LED. The only problem left is glossy... argh.

No doubt they'll introduce adapters soon, but maybe because they want to roll out more monitors w/ display port along w/ the new mac pros?

I'm guessing that even if Apple doesn't put out adapters, there will be some third party ones so I don't see this being too much of an issue.

$99 Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter - The Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter lets you connect the 30-inch Apple Cinema Display HD to a MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air with a Mini DisplayPort.

Yea, but what people are looking for now is a DVI-MiniDisplayPort adapter so one can use the older Macs with the new 24" display.

It will - Apple said they are converting ALL of their displays to LED eventually.

Yup, that's the reverse of what we want. And while I'm glad the 13" models support 30" screens now, you gotta pay $99 to do it :(

I'd buy this monitor if it supported dvi or had a converter so I could use dvi. My macbook pro is not even a year old yet, I'm not replacing it anytime soon.

Ditto. I'd love me some desktop LED hotness...

I wonder if it's to properly support HDCP crap? DisplayPort is an open standard, is it not? What's to stop someone from making a generic adapter as noted earlier, presuming I could care less about HDCP at this point?
