I've been toying with the idea for a while and with Mr Jobs currently off it maybe a good time to buy? My hunch is that he's going to be fine which would help give the stock a bump and with the Ipad 2 and Iphone 5 coming this spring/summer its only good news ?

I really don't see it going down any time soon.. I mean.. Apple is a machine now, they have their whole mindset in place. Jobs built it up to be what it is today, I'm sure they can survive without him, even if for the long term. If anything, everyone's hooked on the iOS/iTunes juice.. ain't no stopping that addiction.

Who knows, Tim Cook or another CEO could lead Apple into Enterprise territory where Jobs cannot compete.

Also, please don't take this the wrong way but some rumors going around that Cook prefers men. Now, I don't care one way or the other but he needs to keep it far back in the closet if he actually BECOMES CEO, as this may hurt Apple in the long run.

There's an air of success about Apple/Jobs and I think its mostly due to the fact that Jobs has really never been part of any negativity in the media, and I'm talking the usual scandals, etc. If you have a small foul up as CEO your company goes down.

o_O

The start of that rumor came from a pretty reprehensible "article" on Valleywag. I think that's all that needs to be said.

Two years ago would have been plenty when it was around $70-80. I almost sank around $10k that I had saved up.. too bad I didn't.

Yes. Buy it now.

There are a million reasons to buy Apple stock, trust me.

Actually 11 million, because that's how many iPhones Verizon predicts it'll sell this year.

iPad II will sell well, and people love the Macbook Air.

Hell I hate Apple computers, and I almost bought a MacBook Air tonight, I'll likely buy one within the month.

No, but something like that could make or break you depending on how you let it affect you. Impact your decisions, etc. You're the damn CEO.

Its kind of like the joke where the Captain of the ship asks for his red shirt before battle so his crew doesn't see him get shot.

I'm in no way saying its a bad thing; hell, he could maybe make it work in his favor.

Apple is now a $300+ billion company. That's huge. I believe only Exxon is bigger (in the US). Point is, you missed the race to the top. Apple is still a great company and will continue to grow, just not as dramatically as the past decade.

The VZ iPhone helps take AAPL to ExxonMobil's market cap.

The real opportunity is (greater) China. That business is booming but the market there is still fairly young so the opportunity is huge.

Tablets are hard to predict IMO. Will it be like the iPod where Apple dominated or like PCs where Apple has a niche? Apple only had token competition in DAPs, whereas everybody and their grandma is competing in tablets. I'd argue iPad will be a major player but nowhere dominant like iPods.

All in all, I think AAPL continues to appreciate, but I'm too chicken to buy in now. Even a year ago was a good opportunity (in hindsight). IMO buying AAPL now implies a bet on (upper) middle class Chinese joining the cult of Apple in droves. That's a gamble because they're just as likely to embrace Android and knockoff fakes.

speg was a lot more succinct and I agree.

LOL, it's done, I got the lower spec model, and got 6% off with my corporate ID.

It's so flipping thin

And as far as the stock, Verizon expects the iPhone to sell to 30% of it's current customers, that's not counting the folks who will dump ATT for a Verizon iPhone or come from other carriers. There are CDMA carriers in several other countries that will carry the CDMA iPhone as well.

The next 6 months will be epic for Apple.

Actually, now is the time start thinking when to short them. Thats right, short Apple! They're good, but not $350/share good.

Here's the thing, they're going to sell a ton of iPhones through Verizon, the iPad sells like crazy, there's an iPad refresh coming up, a MacBook refresh coming up, and the iPhone 5. Throw in a gazillion apps sold, you do the math...

That's what I need to decide....Have they peaked? If I'm honest Im not even a fan of apple, but I understand there attraction....I just don't know if this momentum can be sustained or really improved on. Then again they had strong shipments last Q...Hmmm
