Novice needs your help: How to prep new HD and install Win ME OEM???

I'm building a new system using, among other things, Windows ME, and an IBM 30 gig Deskstar (75GXP) hard drive. Am I correct to assume that I can hook up the hardware, insert the Windows ME OEM CD and it will boot off the CD to start the installation process? What about preparing the HD (FDISK, formatting, etc.)? I'm not sure how I would FDISK or FORMAT, when I only have Windows ME OEM on CD. Can someone tell me what I need to accomplish in terms of preping my HD and installing Windows ME? Thanks a ton!

WinME, if you can boot it off a cd, will let you boot to a command prompt and fdisk and format your hard drive yourself from there. You just have to search for format.com on the cd. If you just want one 30 gig partition, you can let winme start installation by itself and it will partition and format your drive for you. I recommend doing it yourself though. Just pop the cd in and pick the right option off of the boot menu.

I would recommend making a boot disk on a floppy and then formating and fdisking from there.

If you search the WinME cd by opening it up and looking at the files, there is a "readme" file on there that tells you how to do all kinds of installs. This install is listed also. Just follow the directions. I would print the file out, or copy the directions down.

Also with that big of a hard drive you'll definately want to make a few partitions when you fdisk.

This is a piece of cake.
