Novice Needs SSD Help

I plan to buy a Dell or HP with Windows 7 Home Premiium, Intel i7-860,
8GB memory, and a GT220 graphics card. I would like to add the Intel X25M 160GB Gen 2 SSD to use as my main drive. I am a complete novice and need help in understanding exactly how to go about it. I am kind of a step 1, step 2, step 3 kind of guy.

Any suggestion or referral to other reading is much appreciated.
