Novell also said it will sell certain intellectual property assets for $450 million to a consortium led by Microsoft Corp

Hmm, I wonder what kind of assets those are?

Not sure how the new company, Attachmate, that owns Novell views FOSS and Unix. OpenSUSE is my favorite linux distribution and Novell also makes Mono (C# for *nix), Evolution (outlook equivalent) and an improved OpenOffice distro. Depending on how it is handled, this could be a blow to the OSS community.

I've never been a fan of the distro, but the company did employ a decent amount of OSS developers. This may end up being a temporary blow, but all of the free code will live on and anything really important will continue to be developed.

"Attachmate" Wow, talk about a blast from the past.

We still use their emulators, Reflection and EXTRA!, for some of our legacy stuff. Until some of our other departments decide to move away from mainframe computing altogether we'll continue to use their emulators. But as of right now, I don't see that happening anytime soon.
