Well, that was a fun day at school. For some reason, Netware 6 decided it would be a Really Good Idea to corrupt my partition table beyond recovery. Thanks, I didn't need the other three partitions on that drive and the data they contained. Really, it's not a big deal. I'll be able to pass that test tomorrow.

UGh...I'm glad the days of Netware are gone. No more restarting my servers every 2-3 days, whether or not I wanted to.

And loading NLMs in the just the right order for the server to not crash on boot!

Dead HVAC + 120F Server Room + old ass servers = Novell 4.11 Wackyness

Of course the above pics will have more meaning to those that understand it. I am glad my Novell days are long over. Sad thing is there are so many outdated people out there that still say, "Novell 4 is the greatest NOS ever made!!!" Kinda like accountants that swear they don't need one of them new fangled calulating machines.

Hope things work out for you M4H. :|

I do have to say that it was very stable thru version 4. Everything after that is crap.

I helped admin the most ass backwards Novell network I have ever seen. It was not my fault, I didn't set up the damm thing. There were about 45 servers spread all over the state. Some of the systems had not been rebooted for a year or four.

This same place was still buying token ring equipment as of last year.

Did someone say token ring? The server used Ethernet but the Token Ring card was left in. Pentium 60 (Yup, one of the original 5v Pentiums), 96MB DRAM, and EISA baby!!! The system was overheating so badly I had to make my own air duct. The HDDs were 4GB full height 5.25" drives. Each one sounded like they threw a bearing and powered up with loud clicks. You can't see the sticker on the upper right but it said the drives were a burn hazard. Compaq recommended the drivers cool for one hour before handling.

<----shudder

Considering what I saw when I pulled up a tile of the computer room floor, I should have been extremely happy to have token ring.

It was a freaking museum of networking. Thick coax, thin coax, unshielded serial, Type 1 token ring, exc...

We're still running 3 Netware 4.11 servers at work. Servers were upgraded about 4 months ago, and once they were set up and data moved across, we've had absolutely no problems with them at all :)

The old servers were online for about 700 days a piece when we had to switch them off/over :)

Compared to our Windows NT, 2000 and 2003 servers which need to be reset every couple of months!

We powered down our 2000 servers over Break because of electrical work being done in the buildings. Some of those servers hadn't been shut down or rebooted for 3 years. Sometimes Winders can be stable. *knock on wood

I am very familiar with the case that type of Compaq system. I still have scars.
My old work had many of the old Proliants.

You should have seen the dust bunny pulled out of a dual Pentium Pro stystem. That machine should have burst into flames, putting itself to a much needed rest.
