Yeah- topic says it all. What has ND done that's been to overwhelming in the academic world? Is it just me or has ND built it's reputation based on it's jacked up prices and hearsay of being "prestigious"
This school gets MY vote for the most overrated school of the century.

Well, if you want to go to a big name Catholic college in the Midwest, ND is it.

if i wanted to waste alot of money on a catholic school, id go to BC... if i wanted to stay in the midwest... michigan or northwestern...

why have to stay in the midwest, grossly overpay, and be stuck with bible thumpers? might as well invest the money in a business :D

From what I have seen, their academic standards are excellent. Which is one of the main reasons they have had problems recruiting the blue chip football players the last 10 years. I was accepted there and would have loved to attend, but I could not afford it being out of state. I highly doubt that ND is that overrated simply because they are universally recognized as a great great school. This thead smells like sour grapes. Did you get rejected or are you tired of watching the games on TV?

Yeah, but high standards don't make a school great
My question to ND ppl is what makes ND so great? That's all.
Compared to the likes of other high-dollar private schools, their contributions are pathetic.
I got into a conversation with 2 ND fanboys (they dont go there) who got really pissed when I said ND was one of the most overrated schools in the country.

heck no, i probably could have got into ND easily.

their academic contributions aren't as striking as other schools in the nation, yet they're ranked 19th? more on reputation as a football school and their alumni donations. i wish US news would post their entire selection info on the top 25 schools online but alas, you have to pay for it.

Well there is a lot of hype around a lot of schools. SMU in Dallas comes to mind. I go to a state school that is ranked higher in academics than they are. I personally think USC and Berkely are overrated as well. In fact many people have stated that Harvard shouldn't even be an Ivy league school becauseB they have much lower standards than say Yale or Brown. What type of contributions are you talking about anyway? Graduation rates, research, what?
