Noticed someone broke into our garage and stole

a gas blower and gas weed-eater.. sucks royally.. the gas blower was a Husqvarna backpack blower($299) and the weedeater was a Cub Cadet ($200).

We live in a very nice neighborhood and I tend to leave the garage door open in the evenings until bedtime. Then I go close it.

I think it happened a few days before Thanksgiving. I was home & the doorbell rang. I answered & it was a guy needing directions. Gave it to him and he left. I bet he had 1-2 people run into the garage while he was misdirecting me.

Anyway, I'm going to take advantage of some 20% off GCs + 10% coupon and replace them... but I now want to set up a camera system on that side of the house.

I already have a motion detector w/2 floodlights right outside the garage. I'm torn between setting it up inside the garage where it would be much easier to mount & run wires(electricity etc..) and mounting it outside where the motion detector is - also, I do park 1 vehicle outside the garage.

Any ideas or experiences using a camera recording system?

tia,
rob.

do you have home owners insureance? if so they will cover it and give you like 80% value of teh stuff that was taken

Or... you could shut your garage door?

Sometimes the best ideas are the ones that make the most sense. Sorry for your loss but try shutting your door 🙂

duh.. shouldn't have to.. just because it's open doesn't mean it's OK to steal.

Hahahahahahahahahaha.

Here's a clue for ya, Jack...SHUT THE FVCKING DOOR.

Oh, and by the way, it's not "breaking in" when the door is open.

dude, fvck off.. it's illegal nonetheless.

no wonder you have a -6,579.11 use rating.

I do feel for you, I live in a decent neighborhood and often leave the garage door open. The computer room is on the other side of the house, somebody could be in the garage right now . . . .
At my mother's house, where I lived in the good ole days, we never closed the garage door until bedtime.

You are right just because the garage door is open doesn't mean people should be able to steal. My front door is unlocked, I hope nobody comes in and runs off with my television set.
However, the reality is people suck moreso today and they do stupid crap like that.

What!? It's illegal!? Jeez, I had no idea. I would have thought that my countless hours of training and enforcing of the law would have brought that up at some point...wow! I had no idea! You know what you should do? You should be a law school professor. Really! I mean it! I mean, had I known that it was illegal to take something from someone's garage, I certainly would have responded differently. I can only hope that you'll bestow more of your deep understanding of the penal code to me, so that I, too, can someday be as bright as you. Thank you.

you know, in PerfectLand you're able to walk through Detroit at midnight wearing gold jewelry with $100 bills sticking out of your pants. Then there's real life. Not everyone has morals.

If no one broke the law, we wouldn't need jails now would we?

Just be glad they didn't steal your car out of the garage, like what happened to me.
:Q

In Charlotte, there's a law that penalizes people who leave their cars running unattended. The law is intended to lower car thefts . . .
What next? Fines for people who leave their homes unlocked?

Actually, keeping garage doors open tends to provoke warpage on them as they (residential doors) are not designed to remain open for extended periods.

I don't care how nice your neighborhood is, an open garage door is an invitation for stuff to grow legs and disappear. I consider my neighborhood nice, too, but it bothers me to even mow the lawn with the garage door open since it's obvious to anybody that I'm likely too preoccupied to notice whether someone enters the garage or not.

BTW, don't buy a replacement Cub Cadet trimmer 🙂. For $200, pick up a secondhand Stihl FS-80/85, Husqvarna 326 or Redmax BCZ25000. Much better engines. You'll be a lot happier. 🙂
