Noticable differance between 9600XT and 9700pro?

First, oviously the 9700pro is a better card than the 9600XT. I know that much. But i don't know how much better. In all the benchmarks i have looked at they always use like p4 3.2 ghz computers with a gig of ram etc. I have a modest 2.0ghz p4 with 768mb of ram. Will i see the type of jump in fps in games like CoD or UT2003?

Link that i used

i think the CPU will hold the 9700 back a little bit but generally speaking yes, there is a huge difference between the two. the 9700 pro is a 8 pipeline card and the XT is only 4 which results in the 9700 pro spanking it every single time

definately agree. the 9700p was dramatically faster than a 9600p when i replaced one sometime back...

You won't see much improvement in games because of your CPU, but the 9700 pro is a much better card. Hands down. You will see that performance in the long run vs the 9600XT.

Willamette or northwood cpu? Either way it'll be holding your card back somewhat.

Does the 9700Pro take anymore power than the 9600XT? Would i need a new powersupply?

don't forget the 9700pro is 256bit versus the 128bit 9600xt and has double the pipelines which more than make up for the slower core i beliieve. A 300wattpower supply should suffice unless you are tricked out with hardrives, pci cards etc or overclocking

The 9700 pro requires a molex connector, whereas the 9600xt does not. Still, the power supply in your dell should be fine.

anyone know what power rail these ati cards (that need molex connectors) run off? Is it the 12v rail?

its a standard floppy drive power supply connector. the 9700pro I anticipate will give you between a 20%-30% jump in fps in a title like UT2K4. with or without AF and AA.

The X800 will pull from both the 12 and 5 (mostly the 12 though). It seems likely the 9700pro would be similar.

Also, the 9700pro will most likely use a HDD connector, unless it is a very old card in which case it may have a floppy power connector.

He's probably reffering to the standard 4-pin molex connectors. It doesn't matter if it has a 3-pin or a 4-pin power connector, there are plenty of adapters out there.

Yeah - don't be worried - it's just the usual HD 4-pin connector.

When you're CPU limited, turn up the features of the graphic card like FSAA and AF. If you're only getting 60 frames per second, you'll get the same 60 frames per second, but with more graphical goodness for "free".
