Nice laptop and a great value.

However for $100 more you could get:
512MB RAM vs 256MB
AMD Athlon? XP-M Processor 2800+ vs 2.8 Celeron
FREE AFTER REBATE Netgear 802.11b router and Netgear 802.11b laptop card
FREE AFTER REBATE Norton Internet Security
FREE AFTER REBATE Epson C84 printer

Details can be found here.

I prefer the Toshiba's appearance over the Compaq 2199US but the Compaq offers more bang for your buck.

I'm boycotting crapUSA, have for years now, they're the only company I've turned into the FTC for rebate fraud (they paid up too)

Rebate wise I would prefer CC over CompUSSR but the latter has the better deal.

I agree. I'm so glad I bought my laptop (I got an HP ZT3000 and a bag for it - bought that separately from ebags, though - for $1200 shipped after rebates) back in January. Not only was it nice to have to take to campus and do work in the library between classes, one of my roommates had an 802.11g router that I could use for wireless in the apartment. About a week after I came home after graduation, Staples had a Netgear 802.11b router for $9.99 after rebates so I snagged that. Figured 11b would be enough for now and it was only $10. Having a laptop is quite handy. I've been using mine a lot as my primary machine even though I've got a nice desktop because my bedroom gets really hot during the summer and the laptop makes a lot less heat than my desktop.

damn, I had no idea these deals were out there...I think we're going to buy my sister a lappie for college (how original), and she doesn't need anything super-fancy. Interesting.

Powerbook > Thinkpad

And he paid $599. He isn't going to get a Thinkpad with wireless built-in for that.

Just be happy for him..

I am jealous, what a sweet laptop.

Bought 2, one to sell & one to use over the vacation this summer & then sell it.

Next post will be from the toilet:D

Fixed those typos for ya :p

I got mine from BestBuy, same model same price A.R.

Everything looks good so far, got all the updates and got a wireless card installed, I already had the wireless card from a couple of years ago 802.11b Proxim RangeLan.

The last laptop I bought was an HP Pavilion P3 600mhz w/dvd that I paid $900.00 for refurbed.

I want to add memory though, from what I have read it needs pc2100 200pin sodimm and I want to add 512mb, I will open up the memory cover tomorrow and take a look, I am assuming it has two slots and one 256mb piece in there now and I can just pop in a 512mb piece for 768mb total.

Thought about getting one of those inexpensive lappies from CC or CUSA, but I'm about $3500 in the hole from my little vacation last month so I had to pass. Even though it's a Celeron that deal is nice with the printer, wireless rotuer, etc.

Have Fun!!!

it is still thinkpad > pbook, i would like to try the pbook tho. I still prefer thinkpad, pb is heavier for 12.1" vs 12.1". no match for the new x40 vs another 12.1" powerbook in weight.

fyi: i got the x30 for $650 + about $50 for the internal wifi card. the best $700 i have spent. so I am not that happy for him ;)
