I have a 9800 Pro flashed to an XT with a VGA silencer rev. 3 installed on it. I've had it running just fine for like 2 weeks and all of a sudden when I turn my computer on nothing shows up on the monitor. The monitor acts like the computer itself is off or it's in sleep mode(after its been sitting for a long time). This happened yesterday just out of the blue. It ran fine earlier yesterday but last night this happened.

What's up?

Does your computer keep beeping at you while the screen is blank or does it do its normal one beep? If it keeps beeping, then it may be because it can't find your video card. Try to reseat it in the slot and check for loose connections. Also make sure the molex connector for the card hasn't come loose.

All the connections to the card are fine. I checked them.

I tried reseating it in the slot and still no go.

I plopped in a GF4 Ti4200 and that works fine.

What's the deal?

Bump cause I'm stumped. :confused::roll:

This same thing happend to me a few days ago. I had a sapphire radeon 9800 pro with a vga silencer (it wasnt flashed to an XT though) so I ended up buying a geforce 6800 to replace it. After trying the radeon in 3 different computers I couldn't do anything to make it work.

OK well here's a wtf bump.

There's nothing wrong with my monitor.

Now why isn't the 9800 pro working?

Actually I bought it modded as you can see in my original post.

Anyways, if it did die is this what would happen? One day it works and I turn it on later and it plain just doesn't work anymore?

I find it hard to believe that it just died, since I never experienced any artifacts and it was cooled so well(VGA silencer rev 3).

There must be a way to fix this or bring it back to life.

I posted the same problem you have on the board last week.

I have a Gigabyte 9600XT retail and slapped on a VGA Silencer REv. 3 and it ran fine for a month. I leave my computer on 24/7 too. I oc'd the board very slightly every now and then, but nothing major.

Then I wake up one morning and my monitor doesn't respond... exactly what you are experiencing. I put another video card in, computer is fine.

I called Gigabyte and RMA'd the card, so hopefully they'll be able to bring it back to life. But, I don't know whats wrong with it, so can't help you there.

It is probably burned due to improper contact with the heatsink. remove the heatsink and see if the core and surrounding areas appear brown.

you may have burned it due to improper mounting, but you proly would have seen artifacts earlier

did you adjust the voltage on it? I'm pretty sure taht flashing the xt bios causes it to up the voltage itself, this, especially if you upped the agp voltage in your bios could have killed it

double check all the connections too

Yea the voltages werent touched.

The funny thing is, the VGA silencer was installed by the Geek Squad at Best Buy. The guy I bought it from had them install it. I should try taking the HS off to see if it looks burned. I suppose I will try that next. So if it's burned, or if it just died, I suppose I'm out of luck right. Flashing a Pro to an XT surely voids the warranty, right? :(
