nothing posts to screen and no beep codes

Okay, I got my rma abit is-7 and the first oen the ps2 port did not work and the second one nothing showed up on screen and I got NO beep codes. What would cause a motherboard not to give error beep codes? I have built many computers and I have never had this kind of problems with a motherboard

Boilerplate-01:
. Common causes of failure to boot (no video, no beeps):
1- RAM, CPU and/or AGP video card not seated properly, or a bent pin.
2- Drive data cable on upside down or only on half the pins or shifted . a pin or two (usually Floppy or Zip drives).
3- CMOS needs to be cleared (AC power must usually be disconnected or attempt to clear CMOS may fail) Unless your mobo does not use a power-off CMOS clear - check your mobo manual for specific info.
4- On some new mobos there is a CPU protection feature (esp. on Asus/Asrock Athlon/Socket A mobos) that will not allow the system to start if there is no fan (or a fan without a working speed sensor wire) connected to the fan power connector on the mobo (specifically marked "CPU Fan"). If you tried to start your machine without a fan properly connected, you have to attach a proper and working fan and clear the CMOS before it will boot.

1)cpu tested in another motherboard, booted fine. Guess I should try the ram.
2) No drive hooked up to motherboard (disconnected when having problems)
3cmos jumper was cleared and set back to normal
4) I have no idea

You sound like your having the same upgrade experience I'm having. I RMAd the p4p800 i got, then picked up an AI7. Couldn't ge t it to post and finally found out I didn't have the proc connected.

So, reseat everything just to be sure. I wasn't getting any beep codes either, the mobo just wasn't posting. The only way I could get post was to reset the cmos every time. Windows still failed to load.

1. Try RAM in different slots with only 1 stick. If you have more than 1, then try both separately.
2. Unplug everything but proc, vga and ram. This should at least get you to the BIOS.
3. Get a PSU tester, usually $12-20 at CompUSA or Frys. Make sure your PSU is putting out enough power. If so, just return the tester later. 🙂
4. If all that fails, take everything out but the processor/HSF. That should at least generate a vid card beep or ram beep error. If you still get no beep, then the mobo is dead.

What happened to me was that I would get these funky error codes (AI7 has a POST LED onboard) and I couldn't figure out what code meant what because they weren't in the manual. Finally, i took off the HSF to pack up the board, and the proc came flying out. It wasn't in all the way. I've been building systems for a long time and Ive never made that mistake. So it does happen sometimes.
