If the US would graduate more science majors instead of a bunch of lawyers and useless social workers you wouldn't be in this jam.

That sucks :(.
I definitely think the TAs with bad english who cant really help you because of the english barrier is way worse.
A close second are professors that dont like to answer questions directly or have a roundabout way of answering them.

if the us provided decient science classes, more students would get interested into the subject. why become a science teacher when you can get a job in a lab or field work making some major $$. unless you love helping people, its just not your thing. i am intrigued by science subjects, but teachers present them in a boring way...in my opinion.

I'd talk to somebody about it... despite the fact he's probably smart. that's totally unfair to people like you who can't understand what the teach is saying.. that's so crap... i'd be angry that's for sure.

I had similar problems. Mainly in math though. Physics TA's were always just incredibly dull.

You don't need to understand his english to learn physics. Just his math :D

I had lot's of foriegn teachers ... what I actually found more difficult was following the thought process. Had this russian guy for a grad level composites structures class. Beginning material was stuff I had had before & knew well, but he approached the derivations from a completely different direction. Very frustrating, but finally understanding a different approach brought new insights into the material. Continued throughout the course though ... his approach to problem solving, derivations & such was very foriegn.

or maybe its that the people in the US realize you make more doing that sort of thing than being a soulless engineer...

My teacher is a cool guy, he makes the class fun by telling jokes(though sometimes i have no clue what the punchline was) but when he gets into physics, its hard to understand. Sorry if i offended anyone with this post, but i just hate when i cant understand what the teacher is saying.

thank you for your hard-earned money! drive thru.

Consider it a right of passage.

I did my tour of duty last semester. Took a week or two before I could understand him, but he was really knowledgable and a funny guy.

I once had a brazillion physic's professor who told the entire lecture hall to go home and study
Superman 5. The entire lecture was baffled until it was actually figured out he meant suplement 5.

I had the same problems when I was in college.

My chemistry prof was Hungarian and could barely speak English and had horrendous hand-writing. You couldn't understand what he spoke or wrote. Over 70% of his class received less than a 2.0. I was right on the cusp of having a 2.0 (1.94) and went to talk with him about my grade and instead was assaulted with diatribe about the American educational system and the laziness of American students.

My calculus profs were all Chinese except for one American prof. I got an A with the American prof and Ds with the Chinese. I gave up Computer Engineering and went to MIS after that because that American prof was one of only two in the Math department and I couldn't sit through three more years of that.

Part of the problem is colleges hire professors today for their research and not for the teaching abilities.

ah yes, the good old days of college. my physics teacher was from romania. she spoke english rather well and happened to be a great, sympathetic professor. i wouldn't have made it through physics without her.

you know, the way to fix this is to make more english speakers academically smarter than non-english speakers

lol... my calc III teacher is like that. to make it worse, so far it seems like he expects you to have a telepathic link with him for some of his explanations. he asks the class to describe the graph of some crazy 3-dimensional function and everyone just sits there looking at him like this:confused:

Soulless engineer :disgust:
And lawyer is a better option? They have no soul, by definition.

Don't University Profs make an ass-load of money though? Like 100K a year?

That should be an incentive to have more Profs.
