Hey, what we do in bed should not be related to our use of force!

Oh, really? I guess I should be prepared for some pretty serious complaints, then...:Q

it's not "statistics" but rather a news story describing how gun crimes increased after handguns were banned. I found this in about six seconds... Give me some more time and I'll dig up plenty of stats.

Don't waste your time. Its been debated and proven on here hundreds of times, yet the gun-grabbers refuse to believe it.

Oh I know... this is just to put evidence down on our side so he can't claim we only spout opinions and no support for them.

Oh, here's another for Australia...

Debated and proven? Wow see this is why I say you are a nut, if you think that you are 100% right and there is no longer a debate on gun ownership you need a reality check, this isn't something where either side is 100% right.

Dealer: Let me just do the bg check here...*calls 1-800 number, talks 2 mins, hangs up*
Dealer: Ok, I'll run the card and you're all set.
Me: Thanks!

The debate isn't about gun ownership, it's about whether or not banning guns leads to no more crime. Regardless of if guns are banned people will have them, and people will get them and use them. Banning something does not make it stop, much liike drugs. They've been illegal for decades yet people still can get them easily and use them frequently.

So what if they are? Is that fact alone what makes them bad? Or is it the fact that people abuse them?

If someone is threatening my life or my family's life, you better believe I want something designed to kill. Deadly doesn't equal bad. We don't live in a fairy tale world where no reason could possibly exist in which you need to kill someone. We all have a right to defend ourselves and to bear arms to that end. How does exercising a CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT make me a nut? I'm not seeing your logic in being against handguns just because they were designed to kill.

Why do you insist on calling me a nut? Because I believe in gun ownership and have the facts to actually back up my opinions? I have gone through a backround check and psychological test that many do NOT pass. I am considered, by multiple sources and independant institutions, to be more sane and sound of mind than a good portion of society. The fact that you twist my words to an absolute is an insult to your argument and to people's intelligence that have read the thread. It has been proven that banning handguns and gun ownership outright has a very negative effect on society as a whole. Yes, the world would be safer if no one used firearms and it would make my job that much more enjoyable as I wouldn't have to worry about getting shot. But until you actually come up with an idea to take the guns out of the criminals hands instead of the law abiting citizens one, you are wrong on the gun control issue. Plain and simple. You have bitten off something you cannot chew child, I suggest you go back and actually read up on the issue before taking sides.

yeap. I live in the country. If we had a emergency and someone was trying to get in my house the cops are NOT going to be there in time and there are to many people that want to make you eat your teeth!

I plan on getting gun (sometime heh) for protection of the house. I would also like to get a small handgun for shooting cans/paper targets.

Ok I am done here, not point in getting into any sort of meaningful debate with hand gun nutjobs, all you do is resort to silly insults instead of actually supporting your argument.

You are right about one thing, you are done here, but not for the reasons you think. You have nothing but emotions in your bag because the data and truth do not back up your feelings on this issue. Why don't you simply state you don't like guns and leave it at that instead of trying to rationalize your feelings with BS? People wouldn't jump your case if you approached it that way.

Well here you go if you want it so bad.

For every time a gun in the home is used in a self-defense homicide, a gun will be used in?

* 1.3 unintentional deaths

* 4.6 criminal homicides

* 37 suicides22

In 1997 there were 15,690 homicides.

* Of these, 8,503 were committed with handguns.

* Among handgun homicides, only 193 (2.3 percent) were classified as justifiable homicides by civilians.23

For every time in 1997 that a civilians used a handgun to kill in self-defense, 43 people lost their lives in handgun homicides alone.

23) FBI Supplementary Homicide Report data, 1997.
24) FBI Supplementary Homicide Report data, 1997.

I highlighted the BS parts of your stats.

What about all the times that a gun was used in self/home defense where no one died?
What about law enforcement hand gun use?
The kellermann study has been thoroughly debunked; no respected debate uses it anymore.

Yup it's the shady characters that don't want common people with guns. Remember if guns are outlawed only the outlaws will have guns.
