Two snorts and sniff for Trader Joe's spicy california rolls. 8 of them for $2 :)

What is it about horse radish that just clobbers the back of your nose? No other sort of "spice" does this.

What's really crazy is that regardless of what it feels like, wasabi actually makes one more congested.

Maybe it causes thing to unclog and then when you suddenly stop stimulating it with wasabi it clogs back up and causes congestion. Or am I no where close? :p

Wasabi isn't a part of the horse radish family is it?

Edit: sorry, didn't post quick enough.

It's Japanese horseradish, generally far more potent than "regular" horseradish (although in Japan it probably is regular..) - and green :p Yeah, that stuff is megastrong. Curious myself why it affects the sinuses like it does; other hot foods just feel hot in your mouth (and give you the occasional tan where the sun don't shine)

Good article...

"For instance, lab research shows that wasabi may inhibit the growth of cancer cells in test tubes, prevent platelets from forming blood clots, and may even fight asthma or cavities. And, appropriately for a condiment used to season raw fish, wasabi has antimicrobial properties. "

I love how Sushi is the last one they list
