Nothing is running and my page file is 1 gig

I have 1 gig of ram and 1 gig of virtual ram is being used?

Go to the task manager and look at the processes your system has running, and add up their mem usage. That should give you a good idea of where the memory is going.

Is the pagefile actually being used, or is it just chilling?

Page file. How do I tell if it's being used?

The page file is a SET size.

To check it out, go to your Control Panel, System, Advanced, Performance Settings, Advanced. The Virtual Memory is at the bottom. You can change it but I wouldn't advise it.
