Nothing in Network Connections.

Well, I'm able to connect to the internet from my laptop, but on my desktop computer, I can't connect to it. I'm using a wireless USB adapter for my PC, which it sees the router fine, but there is no internet connection. I did a ipconfig and it comes up with this:

"Ethernet adapter {some numbers and letters}
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected"

"Ethernet adapter {some other numbers and letters}
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Autoconfiguration IP Address . . : numbers
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . : "

I do a ipconfig /release then /renew, but the /renew says that "No operation can be performed while it has its media disconnected. An error occured while renewing interface : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request timed out."

Anyways, I try to maybe see if it's something to do with DHCP or something and I have nothing in the Network Connections menu. Nothing at all. I try to refresh and nothing. I go to My Network Places and there is nothing either.

My motherboard has an onboard ethernet port but I'm trying to use the wireless adapter. Anyone have any ideas?

Winsockfix and check that drivers are installed (Device Manager)

Those phantom devices reported by IPCONFIG are virtual devices, usually from VPN software or AOL sh!tware. This is a recipe for a Winsock problem. Google for Winsock XP Fix.

In General you can debug the Network Setting of the computer following these steps.

Step One. Check the Network parameters in the Computer?s Device Manager. Make sure that the drivers are installed correctly; there is No IRQ conflict, and No Ghost installation. http://www.ezlan.net/faq#ghost

Step Two.Verify Basic network setting in the OS: http://www.ezlan.net/Installing#verify
If the above two Steps indicates that every thing looks good but functionally it does not work.

Step Three. Check (and repair if necessary) the Socket Layers, Winsock, and or refresh the TCP/IP Stack. http://www.ezlan.net/clean#refreshnet
