Nothing happens When I select "Status" on my lan

Firstly, when windows load, the lan icon isn't shown in the taskbar and I have the option to have it shown there. I do have a network connection active

Then, if I select "Status" (right click on a LAN connection) nothing happens. I should get some window showing the IP, DNS, etc. On that window you had the option to "Repair" and view additional info. But like I said nothing happens if I double click or right click and select Status on any connection.

Using Win xp pro sp2. I have admin rights. Please Help

I checked the recommended suggestions. My network connection is working properly and I'm able to access the net. So these suggestions do not apply.
Anymore suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I realised that I am able to view the connection status within safe mode. What does this mean? How can I get in work in normal mode having the icon shown in the taskbar?

Go to the taskbar properties > notification area > customize and see if the icon is hidden.

no it isn't. there isnt aeven the correct lan connection icon available there.

If it was displayed in your taskbar notification area then it would definitely be listed under past items. I know it's a longshot but go to the device manager, uninstall the network adapter, then reboot. Although it will detect without a reboot, MS OS'es love to be rebooted. 😛 If that doesn't work try looking for an updated driver.

What is your actual problem? That you don't see the NIC on your taskbar when connected, or that you can't access the "Status" option?
