So I got today my new VIEWSONIC E90fb. Crispy looks.

Plugged it to my computer, and to make long story short, no matter how much I configured it, I couldn't make it look as crispy and sharp as my 4 year old Sony G400.

I've compared it to Dell Ultrasharp (which have been closest, but not equal in image quality), against a Samsung 19" Syncmaster 955, Viewsonic E90fb, LG Flatron 19", and NOTHING comes close to it. And I mean nothing.

I love my Sony. *hugs monitor*

Just wanted to share my experience.

Yea the Sony G400 does have a wicked picture,I dont believe any 19" CRT on the market looked any better than it did,We have a near 6 year old G400 on another PC in the house and it still looks great. Also keep in mind you're comparing a Shadow Mask based CRT(Viewsonic) to the Sony wich uses Aperture grille, from my experiance Aperture grille monitors always look brighter / crisper and more colurful vs. Shadow mask.

The G400 is an aperture grill and the others you listed are all shadow masks or LCDs, right? That's probably the main reason why.

Try a Phillips 109b or similar, otherwise I think your SOL image wise. That was the only moniter I've had that was better than my 4 year old trinitron which died awhile ago. The colour is not as good but the dot pitch is crisper.

I enjoy the black damper wires that run across the screen. These are especially useful for people who grew up under power lines and miss the view.

I on the other hand enjoy the fact that I can spend several times as much $$$ on an LCD that only lacks the ability to produce colors accurately (because who would want that?) and change resolutions (because it isn't like any $90 best buy special CRT can do that or anything). Black levels? If I wanted my moniter to be black, I'd just turn it off! Oh wait! I forgot, CRTs are too big - because I definitely want to carry around a 21" display wherever I go.

I know I'm laying on the sarcasm a bit think - but dude, the two lines aren't that big of a deal.

The wires aren't exactly black anyway, more of a very light gray. I can see them on a white background, but given all the other advantages of an aperture grill CRT, the tradeoff is a no brainer. However, they don't look the same on all monitors; I have seen others where the lines are darker and much more noticeable.

Those lines are the assurance of quality. Never bothered me, mainly because I've never seen anything better than an AG monitor.

As I am aware, Sony only did CRTs right and nothing else. How could they stop making them.
Well, anyway, I have a 2005fpw right next to my G410,
however I think the color and contrast looks so much more attactive on the 2005fpw.
BUT, for gaming, it simply doesn't compare,
whenever I moved in a game, everything goes blurry in the 2005fpw while still remain crystal clear on the G410.

Have you tried using the Digital Vibrance option (pic) located in display properties / Nvidia color correction section,I set the slider in the Low range and it gave my FW900 CRT a nice boost in color vibrancy without being oversaturated.

When I had my 2001FP LCD sitting next to it the motion blur wasnt the only negative thing , the black levels were AWFUL on it when playing games like Doom 3 / FEAR etc.,especially at night, If I was in a pitch black area you couldnt even tell the CRT was on while the 2001FP had this milky grey screen that glowed in the dark which killed any black level potential.

Samsung....is not that good (unless it is their memory chips)

And DVI has some advantages, but Dsub on one of their G400's is awesome, those things had really accuarte colors. But still, I prefer my sony SDM-X73 more than any other.

And learn to turn your bloody caps lock off....makes you seem so immature.

Sony's LCD are indeed some of the best as far as LCDs go, mainly because of the x-brite coating. That HS95P monitor is both 8-bit and has x-brite, so it's probably the best 19" LCD out there. The problem is that it's way overpriced, which has always been a hallmark of Sony; the price is comparable to most 20" monitors.

I'm sure they could make it 38xx or whatever that huge res is. There's 15" widescreen LCDs that are 1920x1080. But there's not much point in making it any higher res because HDTV is limited to 1920x1080 for now.
